I'm bummed. :embarassed:
I was performing the 4000 mile service per Haynes, and I overtorqued a bolt and snapped it off. Now it's seeping oil from where the bolt used to be. It's not a lot... but I get that sinking feeling every time I look at it. The image below has the bolt highlighted. Note that half the bolt came out and landed in my hand, and the other half is still in the block. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to repair this mess?

They make things for removing partial bolts. Taps?
Ouch........
Carbs off, `zorst off, head off, cams out and a trip to a local machine-shop :thumb:
Thanks for the quick replies. I figure it's best if a machine shop does the work. Do you suggest I take the block out as well - or keep it bolted in the chassis?
The head will come off without having to remove the engine from the frame so why make things hard. The removal/refit and timing procedure is explained in detail in your Haynes manual. Get a Top-end gasket set and soak the header bolts with penetrating fluid the day before you start. Its not a difficult job to do on a GS5, just double check your torque wrench settings and you will be fine :thumb:
try this.

if you can get penetrating oil in the threads, i suggest using liquid wrench super penetrant. this is the best penetrant ever.

This is really helpful. thanks for the links and the tips. I'm planning to do the work over the next two weeks. I'll keep you posted. Bike is seeping some oil out of the hole, but I'm checking my oil level regularly - and everything looks good.
