Title: Noob trying to get his bike to start/idle
Post by: Streebek on May 02, 2009, 07:16:33 PM
Have cleaned the carbs and attached all the fuel hoses correctly.   I get the bike to idle with half or more choke.  but it jumps around between 1k-3k rpm.  At the beginning of idle (around 1.5k) i can hear a clicking noise coming from the right side of the bike.  it happens every couple secs.  After its been idling for a few min and the rpms rise (bout 2.5k) the clicking noise had been less frequent but when it happens the rpm drops back down to 1-1.5k until it eventually dies.

You're prolly losing that right cylinder when it clicks ... if ir associated with drops in RPM ...
Cool.

Well...I must say that it leaves me at a loss.  I've been trying to do whatever I can myself to avoid taking it somewhere.

last year when I cleaned and synced my carb I initially set the mixture screws at 1.5 turns out.  I ended up with the same clicking on occasion and the drop in rpm that immediately followed it.  I could actually see the intake boots swell with each click.  The clicks were just misfires that cleared up when I set my mixture screws correctly (ended up at 2.5 turns out).  Have you tried playing with the idle mixture screws (backing them out)?  It might just be that it's lean at idle.

Check for the auxillary ground being good, and for intake leaks.
Cool.
