New bike with 1700 miles, am I ok if I can get a .0025in/.064mm feeler under all my cams? I going nuts trying to establish the correct clearance in inches---most here seem to use the mm numbers.

Read that, watch the video and you should be good. Your feeler is way way too big to determine if you have a tight valve. In standard, a .001in feeler is pretty close, coming in at .025mm, which is a bit tight...
Your post does beg the question: what are you doing checking valves on a new bike that has less than half the number of miles until the service interval? Unless you have some problem, you could probably just leave it alone for the next 2300 miles, which should give you plenty of time to break something else and go fix that....

Correct specified range - 0.03-0.08mm
0.001 inch == 0.0254 mm - a bit snug.
0.002 inch == 0.0508 mm in range
0.003 inch == 0.0762 mm near the top of the range.
You can fit a .0025 inch (0.0635 mm) feeler under, but don't say what you can't fit under - 0.003? if so, your valves are fine, in spec, and you should leave them alone until the actual service interval comes up, eh?
In general, it is widely agreed that exhaust valves should be run on the loose/large end of the range. Again, you are fine with that, too, so leave them be and stop fussing. Go ride, eh?
