Title: Engine Gasket Kits
Post by: AccidentalF on May 06, 2009, 03:59:44 PM
As usual, every project I get into requires more work than I originally believed was necessary.  Blast me, and my need to do things properly!

Has anyone here bought a complete engine gasket kit?  From whom?  And how complete was it?  I find that even ones provided by the manufacturer can lack things that I would definitely want to replace upon a complete dis- and re-assembly.  I'd hate to get the thing that far apart and have to order something else.

The only one I've found so far is a Vesrah kit on OldBikeBarn for $167.  Any other sources would be greatly appreciated.

I just did a search for this very topic and came up with this one:

http://www.partsnmore.net/item_index.php?part_unique=1252

I'm in the same boat, I went to take the head off my project engine and lost not one, but two of the copper crush washers from the head studs into the bottom of the engine. I was able to fish them out eventually with the help of the shop borescope and a grabber tool, but now I need pretty much every gasket possible for the bike. I'm going to order my gasket kit from partsnmore today.... From the forum post it sounded as complete as possible...

Commie bastards! Guess it is time to hit up the dealer then... Not cheap, but they will get them to me in a reasonable amount of time...

I suppose working in a bike shop has perks....heh, what am I saying, I get TONS!  :P
Just ordered an Athena kit for $67.  I guess thats why he's my parts manager. Either that or he just has the latest Parts Unlimited catalog.  In either case, I'm happy now.
