Title: Why is this on The History Channel?
Post by: socialDK on May 06, 2009, 07:46:25 PM
I love watching the History Channel and Discovery but shows like "Monster Quest" just annoy me. They are not history or even fact. They never show any thing new or discover any thing. At the end of every episode all your left with is "Well...there could be some thing...or not."??? The episodes range from giant squid to chupacabra to the ohio grassman. My roommate has them on dvd and the worst one was super rats.

I don't know.

I've watched it a few times when nothing else was on, but only for the purpose of making fun of it. :cookoo:

Yes I'm with you I detest those shows as well as UFO hunters. Seriously, on UFO hunters the dude that wears the sunglasses all the times has either been abducted by aliens or is a rving lunatic. Did you know we've been mating for aliens for thosands of years and that's how they look just like us. This was on the starchild episoed. Then the scientist said "or he could have just had hydroencephalitis" Boy that dude got pissed with that.

I dunno but seems likt there isn't as much history on the history channel as there used to be. Did that make sense. I do like GangLand kinda neat learning about the gangs in this country!

Gangland is interesting and at least thats factand history, unless your a HA  then its all lies and the government is just out to get them....then, and I love this part, once the government gets them them the government will come after "us". But thats another thread and i dont want to get beat up..

UFO shows never show anything new and they only have blurry, grainy video or recreations. I  will watch when nothing else is on but if you see one you've seen them all.

Ghost shows too are the same way "well....that could be something" but if you believe then  "thats obviously some ones head" and if you dont...well maybe.

The reason is ratings, which is why niche TV programming, conceptualized in the 80's, is doomed.  They stray from the niche when ratings fall, and ratings always fall when viewers see all the shows, as there isn't enough new programming because TV executives are cheap bastards.  It's the same reason music videos are no longer played on MTV.

Television is doomed.  Just throw it off the roof and be done with it.  My TV's main job is collecting dust, and the thicker the dust the happier I am.  When I was a kid older people called it the "boob tube".  I understand with more depth every passing year what they meant.

i can't remember who said it, but there's a great quote about tv

"it's a medium where when it's well done, it's rare"

I have the droppings of someone who saw Bigfoot!

Shut up! "

if you pose a question and can't answer it it shouldn't be on TV.

if you say 'Is there a Lockness monster?" and can't prove it... then don't friggen put it on the air.  It makes us hate you.

I also agree, don't watch TV.  I limit myself to reno shows and Mythbusters.    :icon_mrgreen:

Louie, that reminds me of all the bogus Geraldo Rivera specials from back in the late 70's, early 80's- "Al Capone's secret vault",  & the time they brought up a safe from the Titanic (i think it was the titanic) and they suckered you into wasting and hour and a half, and when they got to end, it wasn't squat- i mean absolutely diddly.
my ex-wife would watch every single one of them tho- "you never know, there might be something really neat"
yeah, right

i don't generally watch HISTORY channel much. i do occassional watch some shows such as "how it's made" etc.  and animal planet type stuff on occassion. i like to learn new things but it's rare to find shows on television that actually tell you something.

I watched the ending of the Orang Pendek show, uber lame.

And the beginning of the extra long anaconda show, much more interesting, they actually had some real stories and photos

How its Made owns all!  Science Channel HD, Palladia, and any MMA stuff is about all I watch.  TV is a medium through which to transmit my PS3.

Recently started getting the Science Channel. Some of the shows are OK but they all seem geared to fifth graders. I'm no genius but I prefer programming with a little intellectual stimulation...
