Title: HELP! Bike won't start...
Post by: RyanClarke on May 11, 2009, 10:00:26 AM
Woke up this morning to get to class and my car wouldn't start...no shocker there, that's been a long time coming, just bad timing as the end of this week and early next week are my finals and school is 20 minutes away.  No big deal, it's spring time I'll just take the GS...or not.  GS won't start.  No idea why.  No noise, no clicking, no nothing.  Hasn't run for about a week or so, but definitely not long enough to clog the carbs.  Hooked it up to the battery tender just in case for some reason I lost some charge.  No problem there.  I had recently changed my brake and clutch lever, so I checked to make sure my clutch cable was reattached and tightened correctly.  Everything hooked up right.  I can hear the clutch engaging so I know that's not the problem.  Checked to make sure the petcock was on.  Check.  Oil levels perfect.  Really the only thing wrong is the parts I ordered aren't here yet haha.  Any suggestions from the GSTwin geniuses?  I need this bike running by tomorrow to get to work and wednesday to get to my finals and I am running out of ideas.  HELP!

Do the oil and neutral lights work when you turn the ignition on and if so are they bright?

Clutch switch almost definitely, given messing with the clutch lever. Thats assuming the lights are bright, etc. - it's the go-to problem on "push the button and nothing happens" with the GS, even if you haven't messed with the clutch lever recently. Since you have, it's blinking bright neon letters 10 feet high...

That did it...thanks guys I appreciate the help.  I had put the switch on backwards.  Actually truth be told last week when I replaced the clutch handle I put the switch on the correct way, looked at it, and thought I put it on backwards so I switched it and forgot all about it.  Out-thunk myself.  Always happens that way to me.  Got a whole slew of parts from ebay and can't wait to put them on and show off the year of hard work, anger, cursing, and scraped knuckles that have come to creating the GS as she is today.  Thanks again guys.
