Title: So how do i Fix this? VIDEO diagnosis
Post by: krypto35 on May 12, 2009, 02:07:58 PM
Haven't been able to get my GS running correctly.  It died on me last fall due to a spark issue, got that all sorted and rode it about 2 miles since, where it died on me again.

Just today I cleaned the carbs, took everything apart and sea-foamed.... new o-rings and gasket kit, set the floats.  Still won't run!  Starts up, but won't rev.... watch the videos, let me know what you think I need to do!??!

Is it a vacuum thing?!  I'm surprised it doesn't backfire when I give it WOT

I am no expert but that is weird how nothing happens when you turn the throttle.  Is the throttle cable connected properly to the carbs since you said you just cleaned them?

yeah the throttle cable all hooked up.  You'll notice when I open the throttle, the sound of the intake does change.... the engine sort of bogs down.... I'm wondering if it's a vacuum issue causing the slides not to open - since the throttle butterflies are definitely going to WOT.  But what could the vacuum issue be?  The o-rings are in place under the vacuum caps above the diaphragm.

MORE replies please!

No holes in the Diaphragms, all hoses I know of connected. I've been tooling on my GS for bout 2 years... bought it not working, and have owned 2 of them in the last couple years.  I'm pretty familiar what goes into makin these things run, and it's driving me nuts that I can't figure it out!

Check your float heights. I bet you are running super crazy rich. Does the exhaust smell like gas? Check using the vinyl tubing method, don't use the measurement method given in the service manual, that is a pain and easy to get wrong...

That's sorta what I was thinking too.  Mine's been a bit rich after the rejet.  Having a rich mixure will make it bog down.
