Ive been loooking for a dual sport cuz there are so many trails around my town and i really miss offroading
Anyhow my bike is a 93 gs with 30xxx
This guy has as xr 600 95 and it seems to be i good shape
Does this sound like a good trade or should i hold off?
I love my gs but i really think a dual sport would serve me better for going camping and what not

Thats what i thought . But i will say the gs500 is a great bike, I have learnd so much and will prolly be buying a newer one in the near future.
I live in so cal though and there is so many places to take a dirtbike its not even funny. I used to have a jeep and go on week long trips and i just think it would be so fun to do that on a bike.
Im gona go talk to the guy tonight and work out the trade and ill let you guys know how it goes
If you think that XR will be more fun, then I would say go for it!
both bikes have probably similar value so no loss to anyone (just a guess - didn't check kelly blue book)

I started on an XL185 and I sure miss that little popper...
The guy across the street runs a shop so i will be taking it over there to have him run a compresion test and be shure im not getting a bike that will blow up
To me it seems funner to be able to ride on trails all day rather then the street , + i can still take an xr on the street. Im shure the xr will not do as good on the street as the gs but i will sacrifice some performance to be able to hit the trails
That sounds like a fair deal to me, as long as you're be happier riding the XR than you will the GS. Just make sure that you like it for the riding you do most. If you commute every day and want to ride trails every once and a while, you might want to make sure the XR is something you'd be happy commuting on...
my street riding is about a 20 mile trip. So i think ill be on the xr alot more then i ride the gs . I only put about 100 miles every few weeks on the gs and most of its practicing in a parking lot for hours
Sounds like a good deal to me :thumb: The 600 is a bit heavy for any semi-serious off road but GREAT for fire roads and minor jumps :D

My thoughts on the xr
Tall like really tall almost scary to ride tall
geared low
after having a push button start, a kick start sucks balls but i got the hang of it
wierd not having a speedo
rides really nice in the dirt, Has some aftermarket baller shocks so she rides dirt like a champ
Turns way shity compared to a gs cuz its so tall
Only thing to do is tommarow im gona bring it to my nearbors shop and have a compresion test run on it and if it good its a done deal

I wish you told us the mileage on the dual sport. If it's significantly less, it's a good trade if it's as good as you think it is. Other things being equal, trading to something newer with lower mileage is a good idea.
It has no speedo . Also it needs turn signals and a headlight wired up
it might be a little work but i think it will be worth it. I really liked the way that thing rides. It just feals right
Though this price seems a tad high, seeing what comes in the kit might give you a good idea of what all you need.

Talked to the guy today.He disided he wanted something bigger then a 500. But he was cool and let me take his bike out on some trails.
Now i know i really want one so i will be on the hunt to trade or sell my bike to get one

OK I am sorry I am going to be the contrarian here (That's so new ... I'm never contrarian ... yea) ... but ...
While dual sports are fun, they are really a bike wihtout a market. They suck on the street, they are lousy on trails ... and this time of year GS'es are like cash on hand.
I'd sell the GS if you are tired of it, stash away 1/2 the $ and buy a DualSport (yes they are out there) better Dual sports are ones that spend most of the time on the street ... and as such harder to find etc ... in identical condition, age, shape etc etc a Dual sport is worth less, as much as 30-40-50% less.
Si if its newer and better shape with less miles, you're OK, else you're getting screwed.

dual sports are not a dirtbike on trails i will say that, but set up right they are extreamly capable of tackling all terran. And again yes they are no streetbike but for running around town and getting you to close trals they are just fine.
But to each his own. Hell alot of people would say a gs is a piece of shaZam! but this isnt the case . I vjust know i would get alot more use out of a dualsport , so to me its worth it
Yes, and remember to him, a gs is far more valuable ... I'd take newer/nicer/lower miles Dual sport than my rat GS yea ...
