Was watching this old show called "Emergency" it is about two firefighter EMTs. It's kinda corny but I think was the only real show dedicated to EMT's made. It is kinda like Chips based in the 70's I believe.
Was watching it on the retro tv channel today. Well, our boys are driving along and a woman stops them and directs them into a parking lot. When they get there they come upon a group of people standing around the car. Apparently, there is a baby in the car not responding to the people banging on the car. Our heros use a coat hanger and opens the door. Turns out the baby was just sleeping. The EMT turns around the crowd is gone so they are left with the baby. (Guess it was supposed to be the funny haha). So, they are standing there with the baby and the "mother" comes out with her hair in rolls blowing on her nails! She sees our heros and screams "What are you doing with my baby!" The EMT says "ma'm we are firefighters" flashing his badge. She then screams "You broke into my car how dare you!" They "feel bad" about it!
I guess times have really changed but I remember when I ran a call like this. It went a little differently 1) we broke out the window (coat hangers don't work and take too long) 2.) We dispatched police who called DCF 3.) When that lady came out she sure as Hell wouldn't be yelling at me! 4.) She would be getting a pair of shiny new bracelets!
Was that normal back in the day? I mean did you just leave "little Johnnie" sleeping in the back of a locked car with the windows up? It is getting that time of year down here where you can kill a pet or a kid in less than an hour. Cars can get up to 160F! Be careful with them!

Dude. I used to run home from school to catch that show each week! Them was the days... O0
I grew up in the generation that had a constant supply of Star Trek reruns. And "Emergency" was the other show you watched. :thumb:
Randolph Mantooth, Kevin Tighe...and that woman who played Dixie...crap, my mind is drawing a blank...someone help me...she was farkin famous...
Kevin Tighe also showed up in one of the Muppet movies, and Randolph Mantooth was on some soap opera.
Don't forget SWAT!
Emergency, Adam 12, Starsky and Hutch, ( the real one) Manix, Barnaby Jones, Barreta,
Banacek (spl?) Those were great shows. Or am I just showing my age. lol
Mary, to answer your question, Most people back then were smart enough to know better than to leave a baby in a car. Some of those shows pocked fun at peoples stupidity. Kind of like getting the message across in a sarcastic manner.
Oh yeah, Dragnet, The streets of San Fransisco, Police story, Toma, Lost in Space, and Star Trek of course. Yoeman Rand, Sigh.

I remember when Emergency! was the new kid on the TV block...need grey beard emoticon. It was an action show which popularized "paramedics" as an occupation. Maybe even glamorized.
In those pre-GSTwin days of yore I thought toddlers dying in locked cars was seen more as an accidental tragedy. A tragedy for the parents. Now, it's prosecuted as a crime and parents are the perps. Child neglect in non-fatal cases. IMO, that is the difference between then and now (post-GSTwin) rather than bad Seventies TV nonchalance.
Holy christ i grew up watchign that show. funny thing is when i had to GO to the ER waith a bitchin case of pneu, ( when i was like 7,) watched that show every day as well as chips. and my cousin, in SD is a CHiP is now one as well lol
