Title: Is this really a "Walmart" Battery? I think I got screwed...
Post by: mckinlk on May 21, 2009, 06:21:50 PM
So I picked this battery up tonight (pictured below) from a local Walmart here in MA.  From what I read, these sealed battery are good to go out of the box (is this correct?).  I believe I have killed my old battery from a time I left my tail lights on.  When I first got the bike (4 weeks ago) it held a charge for a week without driving, then I left the parking lights on.  I charged the old battery over night, drove it the next day, parked for 4 days, and barely has juice to crank and ends up clicking.  I wanted to get a new battery to rule that out of the equation when I investigate a possible charging/stator/RR issue.  Anyways, back to the Walmart battery.  So I decided to check the voltage before fitting it to the bike, reading >8 V and dropping mV by the second...  I connect it to my trickle charger and that reports the battery is charged...  I check voltage when connected to the charger and its sitting at 13.24 V steady.  Is this what a "Walmart" battery looks like?  Or did I get screwed by an unlawful customer and/or Walmart's extremely liberal return policy?  This is my first post, thanks for the help!

Receipt says ES12BS (and box, sorry no pic), but its looking like I got someone's YUASA YTX12BS core...

(sorry, couldn't figure out how to put the photo inline)

Yes, I think it is a returned ('core') battery. Go take advantage of their generous return policy.   :thumb:

that's actually what a stock yuasa battery looks like that comes with the bike.  the "walmart" battery is white and should run you about $35.

Yeah be careful with walmart.  I've bought an item that had originally been returned and not returned to the manufacturer and it turns out the previous buyer returned a BRICK and they gave them the money back!  Needless to say I was VERY upset but they are awesome with returns and had it replaced in about a minute and gave me 20% off for my troubles!

recently there was article on Yahoo about a woman who bought a Nintento DS for a son, in Walmart, and when he opened it there was a brick inside...
after a hassle with customer service and managers she finally got her money back and a $20 gift card :)

maybe you should ask for a gift card too??  ;)

I had a similar problem when I bought an xbox game. I unwrapped it and open the box and no game in it. i was upset i had to go through like 2 or 3 managers about my money back.
