Yes, that would be an engine piston going into his chest.  Even with his gear, I imagine he got a couple rib fractures.    :o

HAHAH aren't they supposed to wire all the nuts and bolts so they don't lose pieces? lol

id say so, but wires i dont think will hold up against catastrophic engine failure tho

yeah i am pretty sure the debris went straight through his wrist and that is what you see flopping on the ground, cause i sure don't see any glove or hand when he jumps off and goes to grab his arm.

Sorry guys, it's Brock Davidson and he's fine.  He's a very popular racer, tuner, and parts manufacturer for drag bikes, especially the Hayabusa.   It was just a nitrous backfire and that piece flying thru the air was a part of the airbox, not anything from the engine.   This went thru the Hayabusa boards for a while too, and they figured out right away who it was and when it happened (9 years ago!).  It sure looks cool, though.

what sort of injury did he receive?  If  you slow this vid down it appears that blood flies everywhere right after the explosion?

Some of the guys on the busa forums who race competatively said he raced the next day but I don't know for sure.  They redid the nitrous system and managed to blow it up again later in the year, so it couldn't have been too bad.

here's the second one..
