Title: WTB - Rear grab bar
Post by: dohabee on May 25, 2009, 08:33:46 AM
I don't care what condition it is in, scratched/unpainted is ok as long as it is cheap. I want a spare to experiment with making a sissy bar.

I found a pic of this thing Buddha made and I am envisioning something similar but with a vertical bar as opposed to horizontal.

I had that thought. My wife (will ride on the back, does not want her own bike) prefers to have something back there, and it's also good for groceries and bungee nets.

I don't think modifying that grab bar (alone) will be acceptable. You will want to put in some other attachment points/braces (go down to where the grab rails mount, or to the threaded hole on the grab rails, perhaps) or all that's going to do is provide enough leverage to twist the mount points (or break the base), IMHO.

I'm not a mechanical engineer, but my "gut" engineering tends to be pretty good for what will or won't bend, etc.
