Title: ANOTHER MPG THREAD!!!
Post by: jrains89 on May 25, 2009, 10:44:57 PM
So, reading everyone's posts about fuel consumption, I kind of got an idea of what to expect. My first couple tanks I got 41mpg in town which wasn't that bad. Then I shimmed my needles with two washers each which made my bike run much better, I was excited about it but thought it was going to take a toll on my fuel consumption. My next two tanks in town, I actually rode a little harder because I was getting more confident with the bike etc. and I got 43mpg in town. I guess the extra fuel helped with mid range power enough to cancel out.

The next thing everyone seemed to be talking about was how to get suzuki's claimed 60mpg you have to be doing like 40mph. Last weekend I rode my bike from Lawrence to Wichita, and then back. Both times I was doing 75-80mph, hovering just above 6 grand. Going home I got 61mpg, and going back I got 62mpg. I couldn't believe that I was getting such good mileage but it was true, especially with my bike running richer.

I just thought I'd share my story.

I find that stop and go traffic is the single most detrimental thing to my mileage. If I'm always stopping and starting, I get terrible mileage, but if I can keep the bike moving at a constant speed as much as possible, I get way better mileage. If you had done that trip at some lower speed where drag was less of a factor, I'm sure you could have gotten even higher mileage.

When I had my GS, I typically got between 55 and 60 mpg. On my Z750 I'm getting between 48-50. Riding style and condition will make your fuel economy vary greatly.

I am commuting and getting about 55-60. Some stop and go, a lot of 40-55MPH stuff which is pretty ideal.
