Title: quick front cowling question
Post by: joepua on May 30, 2009, 03:44:56 PM
Hey guys... I am missing bolt number 5 in this diagram..

http://www.bikebandit.com/showschematic/m6061sch503045 (http://www.bikebandit.com/showschematic/m6061sch503045)

Looking at my bike, it looks like the front head lamp is in the way...  can anyone confirm that I will be able to get to insert the #5 bolt if I remove the head lamp? and some help suggestions would be great.

Thanks.

#6 is not a bolt its a rubber grommit that has a nut in it that holds on the windscreen

I already got one from the dealer.... I got both #5 and #6...

I guess what I am wondering is if #5 is missing,  at some point #6 also went missing?

The electrical for the headlamp is in the way.... so, am I correct to say that I have to remove it in order to attach #5 and #6..

you just remove the windscreen then push the #6 grommit in and then put windscreen back on.  now to remove windscreen you have to pull the back side of the windscreen plastic off because theres two pin like tabs that lock the windscreen on from the back side i beleave 2 screws and a few push pins to remove that part.  for the push pins take a small screw drive pop the center in then pull the pins out when you go to put it back together push the pin back up through the center until its about 1/4 inch above the out side of the pin so you can put it back in the hole then push it down so its flush and it will be locked back in place.

hey josh thanks. went out an tried it out..

I've removed 2 screws and 2 push pins in the back end of the windshield... and 2 screws in the front...

Should the wind shield slide out fairly easily? It doesnt seem to budge and I dont want to put to much force on it.... that's how i break things..

it takes a bit of effert.  on the back side if you look theres two spots one on each side of the windscreen youll see a little dowel like peices of plastic where you pulled the screws from thats whats holding your windscreen pop it off those and you should be all set. :thumb:

Josh, thanks for the help.

Basically what was holding my wind shield down was the #6 nut...

http://www.bikebandit.com/showschematic/m6061sch503045 (http://www.bikebandit.com/showschematic/m6061sch503045)

i couldnt get them out and i didnt want to use to much force since that back washer might rip off...

I used a little force to get the windshield up at the cusp and slid the #6 nut in....

Now, i tried to screw on the #5 screw... and guess what, the damn thing crumbles!!!!!  DAMN SUZUKI OEM PARTS... now i cant get it out cause my screw driver wont grab on.... sigh...

as long as the screws not in to far you can pull it back out i had one that i had a hard time with on my bike and i actually got it to pull back out with the screw still in it.  i think i used a pair of plyers to grab the rubber and turn the screw out one of mine would just spin around if i didnt hold it.  hope that helps.

I think im going to leave it in cause it grabbed on i believe...

lol, its wierd, because at high speeds, it seems like it rattles a little, that's why i wanted to get it on.... but now that it didnt fully grab on... it might just rattle itself out
