Title: How to check if valves been adjusted during the maintenance service?
Post by: alexg on June 02, 2009, 02:18:28 PM
Hi All, I am getting my bike to the dealer next couple weeks (depending of how soon I'll hit 4000 miles mark) for regular service and as maintenance schedule prescribes I want to get valves checked and adjusted, but I have a feeling that they are not going to pay attention to it because it is a new motorcycle and chances that valves are off adjustment are slim and chances that I will notice that even slimmer. Is there any way I can see if valves adjustment been done or not.
Thanks.

You are correct, there is a chance they won't bother. The only way those valves would be off is if they were not set up properly at the factory. Chances are if you are not a redline maniac, you could have that bike for years and years and never need an adjustment. What you could do to at least check if they had the valve cover off is to put a little blob of epoxy or silicone bridging the cover with the head, that way you could see if your seal was broken. If intact you would know they didn't even bother to check them.

Or you could just do it yourself. :)
