Title: Thinking about trading my 2001 GS500 for a Kawasaki KZ1000
Post by: Archer on June 03, 2009, 04:14:31 PM
So Im thinking about trading my 2001 GS500 for my co workers 1980 Kawasaki KZ1000.  Both bikes are in good condition, but the GS has a little rust coming through, and some dents on the gas tank.  The KZ1000 is in good shape, but missing a side panel and it needs a new tire.    the GS has around 15k miles and the KZ has 30k miles but runs good.   I have been around the KZ since he first bought it, and I know what has been fixed on it, and I also know that there is no major problems hes hiding from me.  It also needs a new petcock.  But not a big deal.

My main bike is my 05 SV1k so I dont ride the GS much, and I'm starting to think it would be nice to have a sort of "cruiser" bike, especially a 90hp one =)

What do you guys think?  Deal? or no deal?

From a previous post, the Kaw KZ is one of the most durable, trouble free bikes around.

10w-40 car oil is just fine, my friend has an old air cooled Kawasaki KZ -1000 with 150,000 miles on it, and he has used nothing but Castrol 10-40 in it. It has never had anything break down in the engine, and he still commutes 100 miles round trip 5 days a week. He does change his oil at 2500 to 3000 mile intervals.

I'm a fan of the KZ's, used to have a 650 and a 750, would give my left testicle for prime Z1.  Definitely a different animal than the little GS though.  If you want it, go for it.  They're hard to kill and parts are plentiful.

Oh, and pics plz :)
