This is going to sound silly, and I think the answer is pretty obvious, but please confirm--- do engine and tranny share the same oil?

yes, that's why you have to make sure that your oil is not energy conserving nor have any friction modifiers.

explanation to original poster: if you have oil question you use SEARCH and you do the same if you have gasoline question.
