Title: new guy here
Post by: SAvoltage on June 07, 2009, 10:37:35 AM
new GS500 owner here. ended up trading my YZF600R with a blown engine for a 98 GS500E. Havnt got to ride it around much yet due to it not being registered. First mods will be, chopping that ugly plastic plate mounting section, doing a custom shorty exhaust w/ stock can maybe, 14t gears, powdercoated frame black, and flat black all the rest of the bike. gonna try to turn it into some sort of underpowered streetfighter. and i know i know... pics.

Good looking bike.
QuikTaco has done a street fighter build on his.
You may want to search it.
Oh and IMHO the GS is not under powered it will kill you just as fast as any other bike.

Put the headlight adjuster bolt back in and aim it right.

That's a lousy starting point for a flat-black streetfighter - plenty of beat to crap bikes out there that would be improved, or at least not lose 50% of their present value by going that route - this one looks to be in very nice, super-clean shape other than the headlight adjuster, and perhaps yanking the exhaust and giving it a fresh coat of BBQ black (after masking off the shiny part first) - you should consider looking for a more beat one and selling this one on - I bet you'd come out money ahead doing that...

...also put something over the hole in the pickup cover. Aluminum duct tape will do nicely.

Welcome to our world where size doesn't matter because it's the skill and wisdom that keep us on top.  Who was it that said "There are no slow motorcycles, just slow riders"?

BTW, does your state let you ride without side reflector toward the front of the bike?

An,

Right click on the pic and save it to your hard drive (the one on your computer). ;)  You can then bring it up in any number of apps to zoom in till your hearts content. :)

I know it's hard not to look at the girl in the picture, but if you scroll the picture of the bike to the right, I beleive you will see what DoD is talking about.

the bike is not that clean. the other side rear fairing is trashed, but have a new one on the way. on the other side there is a pretty good sized dent in the gas tank. bunch of scratch marks due to the last owner dropping it. did the exhaust today with Engine Block paint.... bad idea cant take the heat, so after checking on here ill be taking it off sanding it down once again and using BBQ paint.

ask and you shall receive.

That bike is hideous. The blue seat looks stupid and the wheel colors don't match. Don't even get me started on the color.

Actually, there is an amazing optical illusion taking place in this pic. If you look long enough you will notice a guard rail in the background...

Now now.  I'm sure if you look hard enough you will find something nice in the photo.  You have to admit it has a nice windscreen. :icon_lol:

Zooming in doesn't work... it get's too pixilated.  Also, the Chevy truck in his pics...  all I see is a rusted hole in the driver's door...  I don't consider that the truck's "cover"....  but I'm guessing that's what DoD was referring to.
