Title: Breather Filter and/or PCV with K&N?
Post by: chimivee on October 01, 2003, 03:49:15 PM
With the K&N clamp-on filter (#RU2970 - no breather filter included), should I be using BOTH a PCV valve and crankase breather filter? I get a wee bit of blow by oil - maybe a drop every few days - so would there be a problem w/ it collecting in the breather filter?

Thanks.

nope, should be fine. That little filter is there mostly to keep small critters from crawling into your engine, especally with the PCV valve. You could prevent it from even collecting any oil by cutting the hose down to just long enough to <sung to the tune of "knee bone connected to the leg bone"> connect the motor to the PCV to connect an elbow fitting to conncet the filter so that it stands upright against the underside of the tank.

Cool, thanks.  So, just to clarify, you're just saying to position the breather filter w/ the open end of the element facing down, so it drains, right?  Because, the cheapo filter I bought actually has the connector at 90 deg to the open end of the element.

No have it point up so that the oil and gunk stays in the tube and drains back down into motor when the engine isn't running.
