Title: since when did the credits get longer than the movie?
Post by: grayghost on June 08, 2009, 02:32:03 PM
my wonderful wife asked me to take her to movies over the weekend. no problem, it's hot here in the middle of the day so we go. i don't even remember the movie (yes, it was THAT good). i even bought her a $5 dr.pepper and a bag of popcorn about the size of your thumb for another $3- and you won't EVEN believe this!!! i actually saw somebody buy a movie theater hot dog!!! man, was it forlorn looking- old, and wrinkled, and sorta rusty-red looking. it looked just like what you figure they found when they open some of those canopic jars in one of the pyramids (and YOU know JUST what jar i'm talking about)- anyway this kid buys this mummy-dog and goes off munching it like it was haute cuisine. anyway i digress, we get to the end of the flick, and i'm ready to make a move, but the mrs says NO, i want to see where it was filmed. as you know that's usually about the last thing you scroll by in the credits- so i get comfortable again and wait.....and wait......
and wait. the caterer, the assistant producer's secretary's hairdresser, the guy that walks the director's dogs grandmother's boyfriend- i thought it would never get to the end. but, it does- and we leave, and on the way home i start grousing about it saying i remember like
Ben Hur, and the 10 Suggestions and Gone with the Wind and all those casts of thousands movies didn't go into all these off the wall personnel (mostly sub-contracted i'd guess) and WHO the fk would wade thru all of it to see these names other than the person whos name is coming up, or some poor bastard struck down by paralysis that can't get away.
you know me, if i ain't Buddha Loves Youing about something........so says the wife.

I know what you mean.   I like to used to stay around for credits, but they do find all kinds of trivial crap to give someone credit for, like babysitter for Mr. Gibson's children and stupid things like that.    Everyone wants their name up on the screen and gets it.

play a kids' movie sometime. there are (literally) 12-16 minutes of commercials for OTHER kids' movies before the movie starts.

sooooo, duh, we find a producer that does that and s-can their whole line. no way am i waiting that long to satiate a toddler.

as far as adults and movies... we haven't been in so long. people are too rude to breath the same air as me in a theatre. cell phones, smoking, talking, mumbling, and generally being idiots. no, i won't pay money for a poor environment.
