once this weather lets up, i'm planning a ride to the finger lakes from the NYC area. please post if you wish to join.
cheers!
I'd be up for it, if I was still in NY. There are a few places I found around the finger lakes that I liked:
The Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport. Lots of cool motorcycles and airplanes.
There's a cool 2-table pizza joint just down the street from the site of Glenn Curtiss' home called Wiseguys Pizzeria.
Don't forget to stop at the Sodus Point lighthouse museum if you go to the north.
Watkins Glenn, of course.
The National Soaring Museum on Harris Hill in Elmira.
Have fun, take pics!
wow which part of the finger lakes were you thinking of? i drove up to canandaigua from brooklyn last summer but im not sure if i'd ride up there... watkins glenn is definitely worth checking out. too bad you wont be able to enjoy the wineries if you're riding. if you're going with a significant other i would recommend staying at the chalet of canandaigua... it's an amazing BnB to stay at
that whole area is pretty nice ; a little wine/food overlooking any of lakes is a nice way to blow a summer day. the whole area is full of waterfalls, swimming holes, gorges, and winding roads. as for lodging, i hove hook-ups...and there are always cheap BnB or even camping. i know ithaca the best having lived there, but watkins glenn and other surrounding areas are nice, too.

How many miles from Manhattan are we talking?
I did this several years ago from central NJ. If I remember correctly is was a little over 300 miles. My sister in law lived up there and I stayed with her for the night and rode back the next day. Stayed off the interstates and it was a great ride.
