Bring him a copy of your state's motorcycle riding book from the RMV...  If your state doesn't have one, look on www.msf-usa.org

I'm surprised that you didn't know that.  Every good rider knows the quickest way to stop is to lock up the rear.  Good riders/racers just remove the front brake to save the weight so they can have that hardees biscuit on the way to the race.  In an emergency the smoke from stopping adds a little cool factor.  I mean i don't know why they would put that brake on there so you could superman through the rear glass of whatever cut you off.

maybe that front brake lever is sorta like the turn indicator stem on cars/trucks- you know, a great place to put the headlight/windshield wiper/ cruise control  switch- cause NOBODY uses it to signal turns!!!
it IS a convient place to rest the fingers on the right hand, and it makes the handlebars so much more symetrical-
you know we sport bike riders are SO aware of the fashion statement our bikes make.

on a another note, i understand that the horn is there to slough off excess voltage, much like the whistle on a steam locomotive, and those mirrors are for checking how great we look perched up on our bikes.

this mechanic mentioned in the original post- does he use a SAE or Metric broom there at the shop?

so my safety course instructor was lying when he said you get about 70% of your stoping power from the front? at certain speeds(parking lots) use of the rear is bout all you need i guess. maybe this mechanic only rides around the parking lot?   :dunno_white:

Wow.

Let me guess....

He's a mechanic for that famed American motorcycle manufacturer.  You know, the one that sells more branded T-shirts, chaps, leather fringy things, thongs, toilet paper, and crayons than they do motorcycles?

Yeah, that's the outfit.  Their trademark is plastered on the back of half the pickup trucks you've ever seen, and inked into more than a few hides.

I get 100% Stopping power from the front of mine. :icon_lol: T500,GT750 Front end,GSX1100 Calipers and rotors with a GSXR Master cylinder. :icon_lol: Hit the back Brakes and my bike seems to speed up instead of slow down. :icon_lol: Hit the front with one finger and it wants to do a stoppie. :embarrassed:

I can some what understand were hes coming from (let me explain) growing up in a family of harley owners (mostly AMFs) i was tought to only use the back brake and use the front only in a emergencys.........Most of my famliy and friends taking the front brakes off is a first mod. my 77 ironhead has never even had a front brake......only a rear drum and yes there has been some real  real close calls. After purchasing the gs im still getting used to the amazing stopping power of the front brake and even using it.
