Title: Best Riding Music?
Post by: vtlion on October 02, 2003, 07:36:34 AM
Ok, so I'm jammin' out to some Incubus at my desk this morning trying not to look like I'm having too much fun (don't want to attract too much attention to how slow my work is going) and I get to thinkin' (dangerous activity, I know)....

What's the best riding tune of all time?  I mean, in my state earpieces are illegal :nono: , so I wouldn't know anything about riding with music  ;) ....  :bs:

But if I did ride with music:  I would have to go with pretty much anything by Disturbed.

Opinions?

Depends on your riding style.
System of the Down for crazy, mad ticket riding.
Truckin, by the Dead for a more relaxed ride.

I would be inclined to say Lightning Crashes by Live.

Start slow and quite, but slammin some sweet corners  to that tune would be great.

...but what earplugs do you use while driving? Do the standard speakerplugs that come with any Walkman do fine? I doubt it...

Here's what I recommend:

Shure E2c (http://www.shure.com/earphones/eseries_e2c.asp)

Many drummers use them as a personal monitor on gigs etc.

As for the original question:
Heavy Metal for short stints and something mellow for longer rides (Mike Oldfield is a great choice).

I don't listen to music while I'm on the bike but I like to hum and sing on those bumpy roads

little OT here but why do people challange you when you say they've probably never heard of a group you listen to?  I don't usually challange it but I still like to hear the name :)

Id say DArude Sandstorm is the best. It gets you so hyped. Blur... the woohoo song in the BMW M5 movie by Guy Ritchie.
Chemical brothers is good to ride too. Janes addiction, Metallica, and some Rap can get yah goin. When Im really being crazy on my bike... which is almost all the time exept in my neighbourhood (too many kids and security guards) I get the blur and darude going.

This will sound so dorky but oh well...
Sometimes when I am riding or driving and I want to be calm, but still be agressive, Classical can do it. Certain pieces really make yah ring the bike out, but calm you at the same time. Perhaps I am the only one who feels this way? Im a nerd

Techno music is great for getting me in trouble but I still listen to it.

Also if your looking for some nice headphones I got some Koss ones called "The Plug" they are like disposable earplugs with the foam and real good audio quality. Also they are nice and small for those without huge ear canals and lobes to fit those other "ear buds" into.

anything ever done by Rob Zombie

And from the Cheezy 80's selections:
New Order
PetShopBoys
Aerosmith (Toys in the Attic)

Anybody familiar with JunoReactor?  Awesome house/techno beats.. FAST.. great for any beat-junkies out there (like me  :) )  They aredownloadable at emusic.com if you have a membership.

I guess there are just way too many good ridin' tunes to even list them all, let alone crown a champion.

Never heard of JunoReactor and no emusic.com membership. I usually download off the usenet, so I can be anonymous and not get sued!

I am listening to Scooter now after finding a nice video called weekend that was the unrated version....very nice! Oh and the music is good too!

"buenos tardes amigos" by Ween.  Not the hardest rocking song out there, but i once outraced a tornado in oklahome while listening to this song and old Johnny cash (R.I.P).

BTW.
Fu Manchu is some of the best riding/driving music ever.. Every song is about cars, bikes, skateboards, buring rubber, exhaust. etc... How can a band go wrong with a song titled "Bultaco"?

Best underrated haeavy band ever and great for riding is C.O.C. that is corrosion of conformity.

Great heavy songs.. Also Down, which is a side project between the guys in the band Pantera and C.O.C. I"m stuck in the car right now, but it makes me go out and ride all the time.

There's also a guy named Brant Bjork who used to be the drummer for bands like Kyuss and Fu Manchu and his stuff is really laid back and super groovy.

I still have to give my all time votes to the band Nebula
A few examples worth looking for online.
Sonic Titan
Elevation
Rollin' my way to Freedom.
You mean Nothing.

If you can find em' check them out, great tunes.

Swervedriver are the BEST riding sound imho. They based the sound on cruising.

Agnostic Front for the city rides.

Archers of Loaf for the long haul.

Elastica or a Flyers game for wrenching. Keeps me motivated  :thumb:

Yeah man, I don't give a flying F about popular opinion. AC/DC will forever be in my top 5 sounds. Thank you Jet for giving a fresh sound to an ole pony.

At the risk of being lynched.... Hayseed Dixie

Great cover band of AC/DC but in bluegrass. Good stuff and I guess AC/DC themselves have taken a shine to them.

Hayseed Dixie's (http://www.hayseed-dixie.com/genesis.html) own description of themselves and how it all got started.

Other riding tunes:
White Stripes
Operation Ivy
System of a Down
Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries
Cake
Sex Pistols
Arlo Guthrie (long rides ONLY)
