The topic has come up earlier. Stock hex bolts are made with a weak spot just under the head. That is to prevent them from killing the threadsa in the case or breaking off inside the case. The ss aftermarket ones I'd not recomend.

My bad ... I thought these were motor bolts, OK now 32 screws in the carbs ... WTF ... you dont remove the rack rail bolts, almost never ever, so that is 8, the top has 4, the bowls have 4 that I include in my kit, and way better than this crap he's got, mine are button head, so there is 16 ... Now, he's got 32 OK I get it, for the 4 carb GS500 ... yea ...
Cool.

lol, so these are inferior? hard to tell from your post, you could do 2 sets of carbs then, for less than 10 bucks, they would still be way better than putting stock screws back in it
OK I didn't explain too well ...
The tops - I will not swap them out, yea yea the allen heads are so cool ... but I actually like the double washer - one split and one flat mechanism on the stock, in fact I would think it has helped us when many a mechanic torqued them out till they were blue, and the spring washer gave it that bit of give ... and it comes off easy.
The rack rail bolts ... I have replaced them on ~5 carbs so far, entirely in my life. Of those atleast 4 were not GS'es. OK I'm kidding, 2 were but I built them from 2 separate racks with bad 1 carb. Never have to replace them cos you never derack the carbs. If you pull the crabs off the rack, you have a lot more things to worry about.
The float bowl bolts - fine replace them, but I would recomend the button head stainless ones like I sell ... much nicer and better for seat pressure. Cos its a larger seat area.
So there you have it, decent product but useless in 2 of the 4 situations, not as good as original in 1 location, and worse than the alternative in the 4th location.
The first thing I recomend is, dont buy worthless crap to solve problems you dont have with money you have to borrow (or money that better be spent buying shoes for the lil'lady).
So, I reuse carb needles, I re use most of a GS FE when I do kat swaps, and generally mod only what will provide a tangible benifit. No sense throwing out perfectly useable stuff just to buy stuff that does not work.
Cool.

ok, I was confused. only one of my carb screws startedx to strip, so I grabbed it with vice grips, so I didn't need them.
Well dont reuse stuff you've gripped with a vise grip. That is what this clown (and I and lowes depot and ace hardware ) sell bolts for. Get allen head stainless if you can find it, else steel should work fine.
Cool.

I prefer regular 'allen head' screws (socket headed cap screws) versus button head (button socket head caps screws) because the inhex is bigger on a regular (non-button) so it doesn't strip out. I put a few hundred button heads on a machine I designed. And promptly changed them ALL after the first few stripped out.
I didnt reuse the it, I had some that fit it when I put it back together

You're not supposed to crank em down till the bolt turns red.
In fact I think the button heads will allow enough torque before you start to strip threads in the carb body.
Of course that assumes you have it on a bench and are on it straight with a good quality correct size not pre rounded allen wrench.
I'm a big fan of button heads but I also tend to leave things just about loose enough to fall off during a spirited ride. Like my carb ... whole damn carb came loose from the cylinder head.
