Hi
On Monday I found my battery too flat to start my bike, which is a 5 month old GS500.
That morning I had used my Gerbing heated jacket (I think it draws about 77 watts??), which I had used about 3 times already with no problems. That evening the bike would not start. I have about a 35 minute journey.
I got a jump start and by the time I got home everything was fine, the battery had charged with no probs.
Could the jacket be taking too much juice? Is the GS500 electrical system able to cope with heated jackets, grips and whatever?
Could the battery be faulty? I was going to buy a spare one and keep it charged just in case.
Thanks for any help.
Could be a bad battery, but you could do some things to help it if its not.
1 put led lights in all T/s's, idiot lights and tail lights...The one JeffD makes is gorgeous ... Saw it on Gino's bike. Put a potentiometer on the headlight so that you dont run it full power in the daytime. Actually a pot will keep the light from blowing as easy too...like turn the pot off when starting the bike. Then when you ready to ride off turn it up a little at a time. and if its day time just stop 1/2 way. Put those hi white/bright headlights that basically use the same power as the stock but are whiter and brighter... so even at 1/2 power you are fine and the potentiometer will let you control it...so you use full power only when you have to...and the last 5-10 mins of the ride turn off the jacket, and lower your lights a bit so you charge the battery good before parking it for the day or night.
Cool.
