Title: 98 750 ACE backfire issue
Post by: scottpA_GS on June 23, 2009, 03:40:36 PM

OK Carb gurus...

My 98 ACE 750 was backfiring only on decel... I turned my mixture screws out 3.5 and it got much better but was still there... I took it to my friend to have him install a dyno jet kit (as he said was best for these carbs).. Well I picked it up today and ITS WORSE! It runs greatbut pops and crackles BAD on decel. I did notice they adjusted the mix back in to 2.5 but still! there should be some improvement right?

I am thinking they didnt drill out the slides maybe? Think im safe going back out to 3.5 w/ the jet kit as well?

I am sooo pissed right now. I love my GS soo much more as I am used to working on it and just did this stuff myself.

Any input would be awesome!

Is this really an issue, my Z750 pops and crackles on deceleration, I've just put it down to the pipe, it's got a 4 into 1 and basically a race pipe.

Yea, its pretty much a straight pipe so I know its gonna pop a bit but I cant afford new pipes and I just dont like it when cruising slow in a residential... Its a bit too loud

Just knock it up a gear and labour the bike around the areas.

It's mainly a couple of blocks around home that I baby the bike to keep the noise down, the rest of the time it's give it all it's got, especially in underground carparks.

Even in 5th it poped loud!  :cookoo:

I turned the mix out to 3.75  :icon_eek: (2.5 factory) Just about the edge I guess... But it sounds MUCH better now. It will have to do until I find out what sice jets I should run.

For now I guess im ready to rock at the local 250K+ motorcyle rally here in town this week!

Thanks.

Once the novelty of the new bike wears off I'm going to go back to riding the GS to work, it's a lot quieter, plus it's got heated grips.
