Title: replica cars...
Post by: 94suzuki500 on June 23, 2009, 10:11:02 PM
so i have been looking at some lamborghini and ferraris.  and have been seeing alot of replicas.  From what I can tell is that the performance is lost but the looks are for the most part retained, but the price isn't a whole lot different if you can sacrifice alittle on the years.  I saw some 1991 Ferrari f355's for 50 to 60,000 and then the replica cars that are current or within 5 years of new are 90,000.  My guess would be insurance, because they are usually fieros.  But i didn't know if there was something i was missing in all of this.  Has anyone had a chance to see a replica in real life?  I would like to check them out, but to me, if you are going to get one then go big or go home, haha, so ya, whats up with all this, it seems at those prices its practical to buy the real thing.   :dunno_black:

personally, I would rather have an older model than a newer replica.

I have seen one in person and it looked good from 5ft or more but up close you could tell.

But I have only seen one and i think the guy built it himself so YMMV.

Also, I am jealous that you find a 90,000 dollar car practical.

IF you have the $$$ buy the real deal... I used to own a Fiero and while I loved it I saw many replicas first hand and they all looked like total crap.

Not all originals are better than replica's, but that is the general rule.   Get a real one if you just want the badge and don't care about going back a few years.   Sh!t, I saw a pretty sharp 308GTI for 26,500 the other day.

That said, I've seen some SICK replicas.  There's a 356 rep here that's built on a GT2 chassis/engine.  Definitely beats the hell out of an original 356 for performance.

Oh yea ... the usual 365 is built on a VW bug chassis - you know that right ?
I once drove a vw that had a 912 motor in it, and that bugger seriously would fly. Of course 912 motors are about as common as unicorns so ...

Spc: All of this is much cheaper in the southern CA area. So spc - if you're serious, think about making a run across there to buy one.

Cool.

Ferrari?  Give me a '73 Daytona coupe.  That's quite possibly the most beautiful car ever made.

right, i would rather have the real thing, i guess the insurance would be killer though. on one website i checked you have to have over 10 years driving experience...i didnt check out a quote but i heard someplace it was 20000 for a year!
