Title: Icon knee/shin armor FS
Post by: wladziu on June 24, 2009, 09:07:07 AM
Selling these:

I've worn them about 6 times a few weeks ago; they've been sitting in the closet ever since.  So, basically brand new.
One size fits all.

$50

Air flow through them is pretty good.  You can barely notice them under jeans, but kind of noticeable under slacks.  They didn't bunch up behind the knee or sag, even on my skinny sticks.

How comfy are they? Kinda looking for something I can easily put under or over jeans and are not horrendously hot. My suzuki pants are waterproof but don't breathe very well here in hell I mean Florida!

well Mary to answer your question, they do get a bit hot unless your moving fairly well  and dont breath amazingly through jeans but for going some were they go on and off very easily with baggy jeans or shorts  . also if you have shoes they tend to slide down, if you have high riding boots they dont budge. and the tags inside tend to be itchy on bare skin. lastly they provide protection for the side of your calf unlike most other shin guard/ knee protection.

Sooo, what temps have you ridden them in? I see you're in Ontario don't know if it gets as hot and muggy as it does down here! I have a jacket this is made of similar material with the pieces being held with Under Amour type material. And is a bit better than my Gx Air. Would be better if the shirt part wasn't in black! Oh well!

Thanks,

Mary

Wore them last Saturday, I believe, to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
It was maybe, I dunno... 95 degrees.

Once I put them on, I don't honestly notice them.  Unless if clothing gets caught up around the knees, like when I'm getting off the bike.

Wore them the entire day.  Didn't have a problem with dehydration.  (Werase and his buddy were drinking bottle after bottle - I had one 20 oz of water, besides a Coke at lunch.)  That's with boots, jacket, gloves, etc.

I wouldn't be selling them if they weren't any good.  They'd be in the garbage can.
I just don't wear them very often, and I want to re-coup the cost.
As Qwiky said, they offer better protection to the side of the leg than every other type of armor on the market.

the only time i started sweating in them was when my dad (i was on the back ) stopped at a friends house to talk for like 5 minutes when it was 95F and no wind  with dark jeans.

One size fits all.

Elastic velcro straps.  They're actually a little big for my sticks.  My calves are about 15" at the widest, and these barely fit.
They'll fit you just fine.

Bear in mind, if you wear your pants a little tight in the leg, they'll be tricky to put on.  You've gotta be able to roll the leg up past your knee to get to the last strap.  Or, drop 'em, if it's easier.

I'd sell them to you cheaper, or just give 'em to ya.  But, my wife's pissed that I spent so much and don't wear them.

I have a pair and like them. Wear them over pants in the mornings or afternoons when I have to fight with commuters. They look a little silly over pants but I'm too lazy to stick them underneath and it's faster to put them on over pants anyway. Ridden at 100 degrees without a problem--once you get used to wearing them you stop noticing them.

So these basically serve as padding when wearing jeans or slacks? Has anyone ever taken a chance and worn them with shorts? I know this an absurd question as far as safety and what not, but I was mainly curious if anyone has had any experiences or knows anyone who has had any experiences wearing them with shorts. (i.e. minor mishaps.) I have seen where some stunt riders are wearing shorts with the motocross type armor and some heavy shorts like Dickies brand.

If Mary doesn't get them, let me know. I am interested.

Thanks,
CB

The knee and shin guard area is some sort of hard plastic like substance. It has padding underneath and "should" hold up far better in a crash than padding alone. As far as shorts go, I wouldn't ride with shorts but they would be a lot better than nothing.

well on a day where it was over 35 C i wore shorts with the icon pads, on the back of my dads bike and to say the least it looked hilarious but i think your knees would be a little less for wear than your hips and i dont understand why they dont make armoured shorts but ohh well

Yeah, my thoughts would be that in a significant mishap, you would be pretty torn up no matter what, unless you were wearing leathers, boots, etc...I know it is very important to have all the right safety gear but it's not always practical. I see many many people wearing t-shirts and shorts and I think to myself "man, if you went down it would be horrible."

I guess my thought is that no matter what you wear, you are always vulnerable but something like this over or under your pants would be a great benefit........and........ if you wanted to take the chance to ride in shorts (goofy or not) you would have some protection as opposed to none.

Yeah, I guess it could work.

Can't say I haven't thought about it.

They protect to about 2/3 along the side of my calf, or so.

Thanks for giving Mary time, Cbol.  It's bad enough I can't just give them to her; I don't want to sell them from underneath her.
(no pun intended)

It's all good. I still have a bike to get running. Seems like I am spending $50 -75 a day for my habit right now.  If you finally say "no, can't use 'em", then I'll work on it. I still have a top end to sort out, rear disc and pads, and......... I think that may be about it? Whooo Hoooo! :woohoo:
