Title: fuel tank mounting
Post by: yesyesyes on June 25, 2009, 04:23:07 AM
I know that the capacities are different, but does anyone know if a '91 tank will fit the mounting points on a 2001 E?  Thanks.

People on here have done it but if i remember correctly the seat needs to be modified slightly where it rests on the tank.

I never switched tanks either, but since the frame is unchanged from 89-09 it stands to reason both tanks will fit without any major problems other than perhaps interference or a gap where the tank meets the seat.  I have an extra front tank rubber piece if you need one.  Hit me up.

The tanks all fit the bike ... any year tank on any year bike - works fine. The seat and side panels are the problem.
I guess the old seat should ride up the new tank if you had the thing on the old frame. Old side panels wont fit the new tank though.
Cool.

Thanks for the replies.  This past weekend some jerk kicked over the line of bikes I was parked in, resulting in a dented gas tank and a broken mirror.  I am trying to weigh my options, as it looks like my insurance is being as useless and uncooperative as possible.  Also, because I live in Philadelphia and have no choice but to park on the street I may just live with the dents and scratches seeing as there will probably be more  before long.  I'm upset mainly because the tank was beautiful and mint and shiny, one of the few nice things I had to look at, and now it's all haggard and busted and right in front of me when I ride.  But anger is kind of useless in this situation.  Anyway, thanks for the help.

Sorry to hear the bad news.   :2guns: people who tip bikes over

According to Murphy's Law, your bike won't incur any more damage until you fix the damage you have.
