Now that I have my bike ('98 GS500E) back from the shop and running properly again, I'm thinking about doing a couple mods. It already has short rear turn signals and the rear fender-ectomy courtesy of the previous owner. The gas tank has a dent in it on the crease where your knees go, so I was thinking about getting a new tank, and while I'm at it, getting the larger '01+ tank. My question on that is, I've read conflicting things on here regarding the ease of making that swap. I read a couple posts saying it's a simple bolt-on thing and that there's just a couple mounting tabs that aren't used. But I've also read there would be an issue with the seat and possibly even the side plastics going together with the new tank. Can anyone confirm which is actually true? Also, does anyone have a pre-2001 "E" with a 2001+ tank on it that has before and after pics? I'm just curious to compare the difference in size and body lines.
My other mod I'm interested is in the mounting of an "F" model headlight to replace the round "E" headlight. I think it's a fantastic look based on what I've seen. I've seen one bike on here with that done. Has anyone else done it? If so, would you be kind enough to post your pics, any pics? And how simple/complex would it be for someone like me (first bike, no mod experience, little to no electrical knowledge) to do? Any tips to make it easier/cheaper to do? I read about using a universal mounting kit instead of trying to utilize the stock brackets in place on the "E".
Thanks in advance for any replies/pics! :thumb:
Nobody?
This (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=47826.0) is what I did. Mounted an F to an F using the E brackets. Wasn't too bad. Someone else did something similar with different fork brackets that looks pretty good and is probably simpler than what I did. A few min searching should turn it up.
The Buddha will probably hassle you for making it look like a part of the female anatomy...
