Title: katana or bandit
Post by: bibik on October 03, 2003, 08:37:24 AM
Hi all .I have a gs 500 five years now and ithink it is time for a new bike.I love the flickability and the easy maintenance of the gs but i am tired of the highway buzz, the air and the seat.I am looking at the first gen katanas 600-750 and the B6.Had anyone got experiance on these bikes?

Those things also buzz quite a bit...more motor and handle bar buzz...
Try one of those ZX 6-7-9-10 or eliminator 6/9/10.
Cool.

First gen Bandit 600 or the new one?

First gen, 96 to be precise... It send down so many vibes via the handlebar and pegs... felt terrible, my 93 Katana also was pretty buzzy, and it got better after a good 20+ mins of riding  :?  why??
Now I might have had bad examples of both... cos my 90 GS also was buzzy...
My 89, my new 91 GS and the 88 Katana 600 I had were really silky smooth. But even that is relative. The ZX based or GPZ based kawi's will bury the GS series suzi's in the smooth feel department. Yamaha's are similar to suzuki's and I have only owned a nitehawk from honda and its similar to the GPZ based bikes.
Cool.

If you're looking at Katana's I think you should also consider the Honda VFR750 or the newer 800.  They are a sport touring bike like the Katana with emphasis on sport.  The VFR was bike of the year for like 5 years in a row before the new gixxer 1000.  The V4 also sounds freaking cool with a pipe.  You can also get hard bags for the VFR.

I'll echo and say check out the ZX6's and ZX9's.  Those are supposed to be comfy and solid bikes.

I'm not sure about the buzz but I really like the Aprilia Falco's

Katana is supposed to be a solid bike but I have no personal experience with them, sorry.  The 750 I sat on at the dealer felt GIANT, way too big

O.K. gyus.I have rode the zx6 and i like it a lot, but idont want watercooling motor. Also the service is a @*$# there is no space to work, the motor are so close with electric parts and the frame. And you have 16 shims to check, pull the cams out.... forget it.As for the B6 i mean the first gen.But why?The motor is the same, isnt it?How about yamaha diversion? And wich katana do you think is vibeless, 600 or 750?

well if you're looking for sport touring try out a Honda Interceptor. i dont know much about them. i think it was Cycle World Magazine that did a long term wrap up on it and they said it got "better" with age. you can buy hard bags for it and a faring type deal thats supposed to get more wind protection but it looks really stupid. retail at the local honda shop was about 8-9 grand i think.
