what kind of grips are you all using. I'm going to need to get a new set soon and wanted to know what everyone was running
ProGrip 719s - gel and comfortable. Little vibration gets thru to the hands, which is good.

I have a set of Oxford heated grips on mine.
I love heated grips. Any bike I ever own that gets ridden often will probably have heated grips. some of them aren't as comfortable and they feel more like plastic than rubber, but that doesn't bother me much considering what you get in trade.
Other than that, I wouldn't be surprised if the grips on the GS were still stock frmo 1991. They're just black and have a knurled pattern
I have ProGrip #699:

But...if it sits under direct sun it expands and spins around the left bar :dunno_black:
I installed bar warmers INSIDE the bars. Takes longer for heat to reach me on warm up, but I can run any kind of grips I choose. I still have stock grips from 1991, but want more cushioning. Gel grips as pictured above are interested. Else I may just go with good 'ol foam. Cheap and easy to replace when they wear out.
The 701 or somehting series of grips used to have releif cut in the throttle end for the throttle tube flare.
Oh wait a sec, GS dont have that. Never mind.
Cool.
Buddha.
I like the Honda style ProGrip waffle ones, or Galindo Super Bike grips, which I have had on many, many bikes. Right now my '89 is still on the stock ones, though. Can't be bothered to change them!
they ones i'm running now are some progrips that are ergonomically designed they are getting worn out and starting to kinda hurt and i'm not sure why i've had them for a couple of years now but am looking at getting some new ones. to take away some extra vibrations what do you all think about filling the handle bars with that spray foam insulation stuff?
Eh! You can just fill the handle bars with BB's might be cheaper than the foam stuff and from what I hear really helps with vibrations! I'm running the progrip gel grips as well. Good stuff :thumb:

I wanted the Progrip 719s but found the 768s and thought they looked much better, problem is they're really short. I cut the stock grip end on the SV throttle tube that stays over the flange and if you look close it looks like I put a new grip over the old one.
I also bought more expanders for the bar ends and bought a new 5 inch bolt so I could put in 3 rubber expanders on each side. I don't feel much vibration with the new gel grips and expanders don't come loose and kill more vibration at the ends.
i've ridden 11 hrs with my ProGrips and no bar ends (or anything to dampen the vibrations) and it was great. No white knuckles or fingers.
I suggest going Gel. For $15 bucks or a bit more its worth it.
I've noticed that most grips have rubber on the ends where the bar ends would go. Do you guys cut the grips to attach the bar ends or do they attach through the hole in the middle on the end? How hard is it to install just grips? Am gonna go with gel grips depending on much work it may be and a new set of bar ends.
Am planning on going with the progrip 724 model if that makes a difference.
Hmmm, if I'm not mistaken the progrips do not have material in the ends. It took me about 15 minutes to do. But, I also didn't want to tear up the old grips because they were still in good condition so if you tear off your old grips will take about five minutes!

thanks so now just to order new grips.
i think they can be ordered both ways. at least the ones I got had that option. I also have the pro grip 699's.
I got the progrip 838 X-Slim after seeing pics of another gstwinner with them. They did have the rubber at the end, I think leaving it on, the grips wouldnt even fit all the way on(I'm not sure). Anyways, I just used a xacto knife and trimmed a hole in both.
Progrip 699 - $8.95 plus shipping from CRC part II - ends already open, stay put just fine for me (clean the bars really well before installing, and don't use anything for lube that will not evaporate - I used rubbing alcohol). They are left and right - I have to wonder if Aff put the throttle grip (larger hole) on the left side???
When installing new grips, you have to do a bit of "stretching" to get the to the proper length - they tend to shorten as you shove them on the bar.
My Progrip 768s had ends. I ordered a grip cutter and was shipped something else so I picked up a hobby knife(exacto) and just cut the ends off. Progrips makes closed and open ended grips just make not all of them come with the option but you can cut them.
has anyone found any decent grips that have a slightly larger outside diameter? I looked everywhere in town and it seems like all are exactly the same. And called NewEnough and he confirmed it, pretty much all they sell are the same as well since everyone apparently likes them as thin as possible. :dunno_white:
If you got appropriate tubing (or a lot of silicone caulking?) to fill the gap, you might be able to put on Harley-esque grips (1 inch bar .vs. 7/8 inch bar), but I have not done it.
Grips? I just use black electrical tape and replace when it wears out? JKing I really like the stock grips that came on the bike.
Does anyone have recommendations for "stock like" replacements? I am easy to please I don't need fancy smancy.
I think I have my stock ones still laying around :dunno_white:
Mary
Well I guess I am old school but I like stock!
Well, You gonna ask the question?
