Title: Trip reports
Post by: whitewolf on July 01, 2009, 05:13:18 AM
Ok, I know I am not the one on the bike, but it is my daughter and wife. They stole my Bike! I thought the forum may like to read a few of my trip reports.

First, this one my wife and I did together.

The Great Ok Run.

Ok, I found another from last year. I thought I would share this as well.

July 26, 08

Alpha and I finished our chores early this morning. I asked if she was up to a ride, she asked when she is never up to getting away. So, I smiled and said one name, "Kiamichi Kitchen". I never seen her move that fast in a while. Lord, she had the bikes out and geared up before I knew it. We wished Monkey could make this run, but she was in Jonesboro with her friend chasing boys I guess.

Yes, that is Alphawolf on her bike!

We drove into Hackett and turned onto hwy10/112 into Oklahoma. At Rock Island, we turned and headed south to Poteau, Ok. Stopping for fuel at the Choctaw truck stop and cool down a little, it was ever hot for this time of year. After cooling down we made our way round Poteau and headed to Talihina, OK. The rode is great before you get there. Yes, it is the same mountain range that the Talimena Scenic Roadway is part of.
You will pass the Hwy 1/ hwy88 marker before you get to Talihina.

When we pulled into the restaurant's parking lot, I noticed the temp was 107 deg's. I knew it was hot! We walked inside and there was several other biker's there. They did not pay to much attention to me, but Alpha. They started talking to her about the GS500f and etc. Finally she told them that she needed to get to her husband and left their company. I ordered her drink and meal. I know her order by heart. Diet Pepsi and a buffalo burger with Swiss cheese and etc. I of course had the rib meal.

Alpha getting ready to go
(http://www.arkriders.com/gallery/d/11551-2/P6102896.JPG)

As usual, I ate to much! Alpha quietly got a to-go box and packed with her half of burger and my bones for the dog. I turned on my cell phone to find six calls from the kids and her mother. I just turned it off again and geared up. I did not want this trip ruined.

We headed back out of town and stopped at the Ranger station at the HWY1 intersection.
I and the ranger helped a broken down cage and got the couple set into town. Then we all talked awhile.

After saying good bye Alpha and I made our way back to Poteau to the Choctaw Truck stop. After we got a soda and came out. A couple on a HD drove up and told us about a benefit bike wash in town. SO, Alpha and I drove to the wash. The wash was being ran by the Protectors mc. It was for a fallen rider in town. Yes, there was bikini clad woman and it was outside a bar. So you do the math.

Saying our good byes again, we headed for home. When we got home we where mugged by the kids asking way I did not call back. I just smiled and asked what they were talking about.

I hope you enjoyed this. If you ever make it to Talihina, you got to eat at the Kiamichi Kitchen.

Trip two from last year again. My wife and daughter sharing the bike.

Last run for the year.

I found this write up last week and could not believe I did not post it last year.
Sorry for it being late.

Aug 16, 2008

This ride is going to be a little sad for Alpha and I. This is going to be the last ride this year our youngest daughter is going to be able to make with us. She goes back to college in a few weeks and I am on call status for the hospital again. Alpha and I decided to make it short and let her see something new. The trip we planned was to go to the new Fort Smith State Park. It just had been reopened in its new location.

This Saturday morning was hot and muggy as any August day is, with no chance of rain. I fuelled the bikes the night before so we did not have to worry about that. We started up and headed to 71N. I could not believe the traffic on 71, especially on a Saturday morning. Made or way to 540 intersections, turned onto the north bound lane. The drive was pretty much routine we have made it so many times, both on bikes and cages. Alpha and I were on the FJR and monkey was on the gs500f.

The first stop was going to be at the Silver bridge truck stop. There we got a soda to cool off and horse around a little.

After wasting some time, we got back onto the bikes and headed north on old 71. The park is about 11 miles north of Mountainburg now. Monkey had a blast on the turns and etc. She has driven this several times.

When we reached the park, I stopped at the ranger station to get some photos and etc.

We loaded back up and drove through the camp grounds and cabin areas. Monkey and Alpha wanted to stop at the marina. Monkey wanted to rent a paddle boat. SO being the good dad, I rented a boat for the hour. It wore the both of us out. Before we docked I noticed the clouds started coming in. I swore I heard thunder in the distance, but I was the only one heard it.

Driving back up the hill to the ranger station, it rained just a little and then stopped. Monkey wanted to rain with me and let Alpha ride the Gs500f. They switched out and we headed out. By the time we reached the main entrance the rain started again and it was coming down. We made it back to the SB truck stop and waited it out for awhile. We where soaking wet. Alpha and I decided to follow old 71 to Alma and grab some supper there. The rain started again a mile south of Mountainburg and quit before we made Alma city limits.

So still soaking wet we went into Taco Bell to get some supper before we headed for home.

Leaving after supper

Even though we got wet, it was still a wonderful day and I would never trade it.

This last trip was this year. Daughter stole bike from wife for the day.

The Spring Break run!

Mar 18, 09

Monkey wanted to show the boyfriend some of Arkansas, but on bikes. I took the day off from work to take the BF on the fjr to Mount Magazine. The plans were they where going to meet me at 8:00 am. Yea right, we are talking about college students. It was 10:00 am when they showed up. We all geared up and got onto the bikes. This is Mohammad's first time ever on a motorcycle. So, I explained how to ride on the back of one.

The route was going to be a little different than what my daughter had done the summer before. I was going to take her on hwy 10 to hwy 309 and go up the south side of the mountain. We made our way through Greenwood and headed for Booneville on hwy 10. At Booneville we stopped for gas and restroom break. The whole trip Mohammad was asking me questions and talking. Monkey took forever at the gas station and walked out like a princess.

We started up again and headed to hwy 309. At 309 we turned north and I started laughing, Mohammad asked what was up. I told him of the switch backs and turns coming up and Monkey was going to kill me for not telling her first. When we hit the first turn I noticed Monkey falling back. I knew she would do fine. At the entrance sign for the Mount Magazine SP, I pulled off for some pictures. Monkey pulls up and does not say a word. She does not even have her visor up, buts looks at me and flips me off. I lost it and started laughing.

Some young ladies from Ole Miss took this photo for us
(http://www.arkriders.com/gallery/d/11724-2/P1243236.JPG)

We took several pictures at this stop and meet some college students from 'ole Miss'. They warned us the lodge and camp grounds where full of college students. As they left I wished them a safe trip home. We geared up and headed to the lodge. We barely found parking for the bikes. The information was correct, it was full. We walked around the lodge and I went in to get us a table. I went back to find the kids and tell them it would be a 1 ½ hour wait to get a table. At that we decided to get something a Shirley's outback instead.

As we headed out, we first stop at the park's office. I needed a break. I caught up to the kids in the gift shop. They where looking at buying some items. As I walked up there was a group of Arabic students making comments in their home language. They where shock when my daughter started talking back to them in Arabic and then Mohammad chimed in, I still do not know what was said, but I could tell it pissed off my daughter. What little I have been able to get it was about me.

After the excitement, we headed back out to Shirley's for lunch. We got there and had a snack and sat for awhile.

The rest was nice, but we needed to get home. So we headed out and made our way home on hwy 22 until we reached hwy 96 by Ft Chaffee. Then we turned onto hwy 96 to Greenwood. At Greenwood, we passed by our old house so Mohammad could see where Monkey had grown up.

WE made it home in time for the kids to cook some Palestine dishes for us. That boy can cook.

Showing off for his bother who also never been on a motorcycle

Very nice  :icon_mrgreen:
What a great way to spend time with your family.
Way more than pipes and jets and what tires grip best and stuff like that, this is what riding is all about, to me.  :thumb:

Great write-ups.  Family trips are cool -- my dad, brother and I do a long one every year.  Now we need to get to Arkansas!  I have been there ina cage, but never on the bike.

I live in Western OKlahoma -- give me a shout if you ever plan to get over this way!
