Title: Lower pegs
Post by: intergalactic on July 01, 2009, 07:53:58 PM
I need some. I am just too big. I raised the bike 2" with a GSXR shock, so I won't scrape. I am just a teeny bit away from being comfortable, what with multiple knee surgeries and all, and 6'1" tall. Heels on the new bike boots don't help. Any ideas?  I want to keep the bike, And I don't want a Vstrom just to cure this.

I'm 6'1" so I feel your pain.  I redid the seat with high density foam and made it nearly flat instead of sloped forward.  I used a hayabusa as an example to shape it.  It added about 1.25 inches to the overall height by the tank, yet still left the back side at the original height.  It helped alot more than you'd think and since it doesn't squish nearly as easy as the stock stuff it's more like 2 inches more legroom.

That or you could always get an operation to remove a couple of inches from your femurs so you can be short like the rest of us AVERAGE people.....

That is the problem, believe it or not.

I have a naturally long torso, plus my right femur is 1.5" shorter from a surgical accident. Which makes bending even worse. If the lower leg were shorter it would be more comfortable, I think.

I was considering a thicker seat (and the description was great, BTW, but I already have lots of upper body height on an unfaired bike. So I might try it, but not until I at least attempt lower pegs, I think.

I don't know how much they actually lower but the GSXR pegs seem a bit lower to me. I'm only 5'8" but a 34" inseem with two knee surgeries on the right knee so the new pegs were a good $15  investment! Thanks Grommet  :whisper: BTW you got any rear pegs already done hmmm?????

There is a peg lowering kit on this page:
http://www.whaccessories.com/GS500Accessories.htm

It is extremely overpriced, but it should give you an idea and you might be able to build something yourself.

Also take a look at the wiki for an ebay peg replacement. I did something similar and gained about 1" of legroom from that alone.
