Title: Oil Pan Gasket Question
Post by: Adam R on October 03, 2003, 03:21:29 PM
Well, I pulled the pan looking for the washer, and the gasket broke in half.

Can I get away with putting Permatex Gasket Sealer on the two exposed surfaces, or is a replacement gasket needed?  I hesistate to call the dealers after the hoops I had to jump through to get the head gasket.

'Sup to you man. Try it and see how it goes, but you are dealing with a critcle oil retaining cover and gasket. Or, try it until the new gasket comes in. You are going to order another gasket anyway, aren't you? You can't ride around on an iffy gasket, I mean, are you going to feel 100% secure?

Yah Id go with the new gasket that way you dont blow a homemade gasket and oil down your rear tire, lay over your bike and lock the motor up because of a gasket. If I planned on keeping my GS longer Id replace the two side cover gaskets and the oil pan gasket because they all leak :x . Rather to be safe than sorry.  :thumb:
