Title: Valve shim question
Post by: zeusrekning on August 16, 2009, 04:45:26 PM
Im watching Kerry's valve shim adjustment video atm, I checked mine earlier by turning the engine over till I could fit the largest possible shim under the cam lobes.
Here are my findings:
Right Exh:   .0045" -   .114mm
Left Exh:     .0080" -  .203mm
Right Int:    .0030" -  .076mm
Left Int:      .0035" -  .089mm

.03mm - .05mm is the correct range right?
Is it common for the clearance to be too large?
That .008" seems to be farthest out so Ill double check it tomorrow.

They are rubber. Rubber + heat and age = cracks. New ones are (IMHO, and assuming you shop for best price including whatever you need to include) worth it.

Yeah, those look large.  I think clearances usually decrease  :dunno_black:

correct range is .03mm - .08mm

For your maintenance pleasure, see the tappet clearance procedure (http://www.familyjones.org/paul/valve_adj.pdf)

Agreed, I got a new set from bike bandit and the are great, plus I have the one good one left as a back up if needed.

Buy new ... These are 5-8 year items, and swapping it from another - you never know what state it is in.
Cool.
