experiencing "tick" or intake backfire at cold and warm idle w/ and w/out choke - bike idles, tick sound occurs, idle falls for a second then recovers... repeat.
I've played with idle screws, leaning and richening the mixture - no effect. Carb boots are solid, and sealed property to carbs and heads. What else could it be?
Also having severe off-idle to 3k rpm stumble when warm... checked my floats and they're on the money at the bowl seam....
Any suggestions?! Could these problems be related? NEED to get them fixed... cuz it looks like I might have to sell my GS asap to help pay for a new boiler system

been going on for a about a month.... I cleaned the carbs and everything was functioning most excellent... did a couple track days and started to notice these issues at low RPM, but just now getting around to checking them out because I'm back to street use. you thinking clogged pilots?
Well generally speaking something like this occurs when foreign material enters the fuel system and is very hard to "Adjust" out. This could also be a part failure such as an "O"ring? Things just don't start on their own...something had to have changed, been clogged, or broke? With the mods you have done to the carbs you should be able to find the issue. Good Luck :)
I'd say the hovering is lean.
The tick and stumble can be either, but rich is the first guess I have. It really depends on the nature of the tick. Is it more like a misfire ? or like a sneeze. Misfire = lean, sneeze = rich.
So clogged jet in 1 carb, high float in another maybe.

My suggestion is to balance the carbs, I had a similar problem and that seemed to take care of it. Balancing isn't that invasive and you can make the parts very easily, let me know if you can't find the description of the balancing tool.

me too, same problem, same solution, (and resetting the mixture screws)
