Sorry if I'm being dense here, but is the News Message about a new server being required something to get really worried about? I'd hate to see this site go down!! What's gonna happen? Any news about the future of the site??

don't worry, it's not a big deal. it won't bring GStwins down.
Speaking of that I don't know who does the logistics of this place but I am more then willing to help out/advise in any way I can. :thumb:

I think that message about moving to a dedicated server is in reference to the wiki but i am not sure. This site has to many active people to just let it die.
Well I am not sure if it just effected me but twice yesterday the site was not reachable from 2 different ISP's and locations?
Did anyone else experience this?

I did. I tried to use Google Chrome and AOL....neither worked.
AOL is a ISP, while Google is not. Google is a Search Engine. Yes the server had to have been down yesterday. I tried myself accessing the site's message board several times with no luck.
What kind of bandwidth does this site pull? Who's the Administrator that is in charge of it?
The moderators are listed above :thumb:

He wasn't talking about the search engine, he was talking about Google Chrome, Google's standalone web browsing application. Either way, it's still not an ISP.
All you need is a linux box from your house. Got mine running from the apartment.
Well that's a relief then! :woohoo:

I am the primary admin doing all backups and site maintenence. I have that up to let you folks know that there are changes coming.
John Callahan is the site owner, he pays the bills for the server. We push roughly 30-35 gb of bandwidth a month. Which isnt much, but for a site with no graphics that is a lot. Secondly we are on a shared server, so that means we are hogging for CPU cycles. If we had our own server, we wouldnt have that problem. The problem comes when we try to backup or run my monthly maintence processes, it hogs the server and times out. Which means we are getting awfully close to the limitations of a shared server. Time for a dedicated one.
We're evaluating options. Currently looking at a dedicated host at serverpronto.com, that costs the same as what we pay per month.
Dont let it bother you.. infact i'll take it off for now.
Edit: I am sorry i didnt know the server was down yesterday.
Well, if you give me a call, I can see what we can work out for you
I may be a rookie on the website, but I also work for a webhosting company (and no, we are not resellers for godaddy)
