Title: Adding right turn indicator light to dash?
Post by: cboling on July 19, 2009, 11:43:49 AM
Has anyone added a right turn indicator to their dash lights? (Separate left and right indicators?)

if you were to do it, one of the holes would have to be off center.  other than that, it should be "simple".  run a wire from the front indicators positive to the bulb, and ground the other to the shared ground in the cluster.  dont know about getting a light that will match the other lenses though

Thanks. I was building my indicator bar since I have ditched the stock gauges and indicators. I still have the stock harness and was thinking how I could get the signal from there. I decided to keep it as it is with a single turn indicator and use the existing harness with the LED's. I got it about 90% done. All I have to do now is the last minor details and a mounting bracket of sorts.

I've heard of polarized leds having problems being used as the turn signal bulb.  make sure of the type of led you get for the turn indicator

Dont know if someone is still trying to do this but i did it fairly simply.

Behind the gauges ( yes you have to unbolt them ) you will find the two wires into the rear of the stock indicator light , one black and one pink or something like that. Any way there are two wires. I used two 12v LEDs . The type that come in a chrome bezel for mounting ( these ones were the flashing type but i dont think that really matters ) They were each prewired with a black and a red wire.

I cut the plastic away from the side of the original dash wires enough to solder my new wires to.

I took the LEDs and joined them so that i had one black wire of one joining the other red. Then do the same thing again to the other wires.

So what you now have is two LEDS with their wires joined ( a red with a black joined together twice ) to make two leads for soldering.

These then were soldered to the stripped wires ( one set on either wire ) . Being LEDs they will only work when wired a certain way. So left indicator will light one and right indicator will light the other. ( and they flash with the stock indicators ) Between the gauges at the back top is a screw that i used to fix a bracket that i mounted the LEDs into so they sit between the tops of the speedo and tacho.  Just test them first before mounting to set them up on the correct sides - left and right
