so i want to do the 7 segment shift indicator. My question is that i have a 05 gs500f will there be anything i have to change to the installation instructions or is everything exatcly the same? as they installed it on later year bikes . i guess what im really asking is about is the shift indicator cable and if its the exact same part i have to buy. thank you

My guess is that it would be the same. Before buying the parts, it might be worthwhile to open your bike and take a look at the cable that's in there. It should look similar to the photos in the instructions. Post some pictures if you have questions.
Good luck!
Wow, I just browsed through that PDF, I'm very impressed. That looks like a nice mod, but my electrical skills stop at replacing batteries in things.
Do you just know electrical stuff well enough to know how to set those kind of things up?
for the 89 shift indicator the only functional output is neutral.. there's some other posts on the sensor, but they're blind.
so if you have only a neutral indicator, you may only have a neutral sensor. take the sensor off and look for shiny spots where the lighht grounds to the pin. there's either 7 or 1.. if there's 7 you can just add the cable to connects them all, if there's only one you need a new sensor.
of course, if 'new sensor' is what you inteded by 'cable' then yah... that'll work.

me know electrical stuff..no not really unless its household wireing....but my rommate and gf are electrical engineers and they've done soemthing like it at school so ill be ok....also if there is enough demand...my gf might make some for everyone to order...but we're going to practice on my bike first...thanks for all the responses
