Title: slipons and pipe stretching
Post by: blade on July 20, 2009, 02:26:27 PM
After searching and reading several posts with regard to the pipe size before the stock can I came up with a diameter of 1.5 to 2.25 inches. Because of the ambiguity I took a flex tape and measured the distance around the pipe and came up with 5 5/8th inches, if my math is right that should make the pipe diameter about 1.79 inches.
I got a great deal on a Hindle slip on with an entry pipe diameter of 2.25 inches.
I know that I will need to make up a mid pipe to get the new can onto the stock pipe. My question is, does anyone know how much I can expand the stock pipe to fit into another short length that I will expand the opposite end into the new can?  :dunno_white:

dunno try it and let us know... oh and you can always reduce the size of the larger pipe by makin two or three cuts down the pipe and using a clamp to tighten down like the old slip ns. but just not too far down then you have rediculous leaks and ugliness, good for small, fine adjustments...

i remember i used a mid pipe from a hayabusa and the outer diameter is really big, bigger that 2.5 inches i think.  what i did was is cut the back side (the side by the bike where you cant see it) and removed a triangle shaped section and the clamped down the pipe over the smaller pipe and welded it.  I hope that makes sense.  i cut it like that so it would bend smooth and look tapered.  Hope that helps.

I had mine expanded to fit an aftermarket can.  It split after about 1/4 inch.  Welder took care of the rest.
