Title: Need Help With Info About PJ1 Chain Lube
Post by: That_Dude on July 20, 2009, 05:12:01 PM
Hello All, I have tried to search this site for anyone who has used PJ1 Chain lube.  I have used the search function but I guess I don't have the correct words to search.  Can anyone tell me the correct keywords to search for?

Chain lube is chain lube. The biggest problem is not doing it. Get whatever you want, lube it up every 500 miles, and you'll be fine.

But yeah, I tried searching too and got nothin'. I know some of the FZ1 guys use it and like it. I prefer Chain Wax. It basically comes down to personal preference, just like oil.

Just make sure it's o-ring safe!

yhea, what they said!

If it helps, I used PJ1 for awhile when I was doing motocross.  It was fine.  Didn't fling and managed to not pick up too much dirt.  How's that for an in depth review.   :D

"pj1 black label" kept my super worn rusted chain from dying before i replaced it... it's like maple syrup for your bike. i use it exclusively

+1.

I like Chain Wax because it doesn't 'fling' off as much as the other lubes I've used, FWIW.

Likewise, but there is a trade off: the stickiness also allows other things to stick to it, like dirt.

Thanks everyone for the replies.  I will try to pick up some PJ1 Black later today when I get off work.  Thanks again.

PJ1 Black is the original made for non-O-ring chains.  Blue label is made for o-ring chains.  The non-O-ring lube is more viscous, and the Blue Label is a bit more tacky.

Use blue if you have a oring chain! I just use motorcycle chain wax, works great

Like I stated earlier this is my first bike so I don't know if my chain has o-rings or not.  I've never dealt with bikes before. If someone can tell me how to check it would be appreciated.

If you don't know, go with the blue. It will work on a non o-ring chain without causing damage, while the black will ruin o-rings.

According to my manual (I don't know if this is for all years) the stock chain is o-ring.
