Title: Can't get clutch to engage!!!
Post by: LucPro on July 26, 2009, 02:08:41 PM
I have rebuilt my 04 and put a new engine in  and I can't seem to get the clutch to engage so I can ride it. I have tried adjusting the cable and even the little lockscrew thingy and it just still won't engage...

Any advise?

when ou put the basket together did you make sure it locked into the clutch disks correctly?  take your side cover off and make sure its put together with no gaps anywhere.  it might be hung up and not siding all the way in.

Are you talking about on the curbside cover? Or where to chain is?

Well I have my clutch plates from my old motor, and they were good. Am I going to have to drain the oil to get in there? Is there easier things I can check first? I have never taken any of that apart before so I prefer not to...

well if you make your cable slack and your still not goin anywhere you have a problem.  pull the sprocket side off and make sure your push rod isnt stuck in where it wont let it move otherwise your draining the oil and pulling a side cover off.

The push rod will not push in at all... It should be able to be pushed in correct?

no im guessing its in all the way already pull it out and clean it and then try it again thats what make your clutch not grab.  it pushes in and opens your clutch basket so you can shift.  take the push rod out clean it and put it all back together

Take the clutch basket apart and clean it? As well as the push rod?

Ok so I pulled out the push rod and found my old one to compare. My oldone was a good 12-15mm longer. Cleaned my old one threw it in and it is really tight. I have to back off the lock screw. It is cuz I used the old case covers on the new case, I didn't realize they were different sizes. Lemme try to adjust it so it engages properly.
