Title: So, who knew that lawn mowers aren't meant to.........
Post by: spc on July 26, 2009, 06:16:20 PM
efficiently destroy a small alligator.  I ran over the little bastard in the high grass by the pond outside.  I'm happy the mower met it before my feet did, though the high speed bone fragments did a number on my shins.  A quick call to animal control confirmed that gators don't carry any blood-born diseases that affect humans.   I'm pretty sure that the lawn mower is toast, it made really bad noises when I tried to crank it back up.  Not sure, maybe I just need to clean the guts/bone, etc out.  I'm gonna throw some iodine on the larger gashes and call it squared away.   Anyone else ever run over a gator with a lawn mower?

Nope, I pushed the body (well the remnants) back in the water (gators will eat dead gators).  I might take some of the under side of the mower tomorrow.  The shins are nothing special, just looks like I was running on a nice back woods trail in a pair of shorts.

I hit a chunk of wood with my mower once.  It bent the blade and shaft adapter, and sheared the key on the magneto/ignition/flywheel.  It wouldn't really run, just almost.  Replace the key, blade and adapter and it's been running for the last 12-13 years.  Although, never as smooth as it was before I hit that piece of wood!  Probably did bend the crankshaft just a bit.

I helped mow the golf course on Skidaway Island a few times...years ago. The gators always hauled a$$ when the mower went near the lake.

They usually get the hell out of your way long before you get near them.  Are you sure it wasn't already dead?

I ran over a snake once & felt bad about it.   I like snakes, and I didn't see it in time to react.
