does anyone know if a 2000 tank will fit on a 1992?

Your seat wont quite fit right on it but it can work

Same seat part number on 1992 and 2000 models.  Tank and seat should fit?

I'm looking to get a new tank somewhere in the near future as mine has more dents than it knows what to do with. What year is it that they switched to the newer shape? I'm guessing 2001 from Buddha's last comment?

yes.  if you cut the little triangle off the front of the older seat, it will look alot better with the newer tank.

If I can't find a used one, I will buy a new 2000 one. More expansive, but at least, I will ride.

I have a 1990 gs500 and it has a tank from a 2002 on it right now. it looks a little funny but it fits in there just fine. I will take a picture of it when I head out so you can see what it looks like

a used tank was much harder to find than I expected. I ended up getting one for 100 bucks on ebay
