When I slow down or come to a stop light or stop sign, the RPM stays at about 3.5K-4K. It goes back down to normal if I release the clutch a bit, but it happens again at the next stop. My RPM is set at 1200-1300 and I don't think the throttle is getting stuck.
Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

It was rejetted by a previous owner if I remember right. Do you know what size jets he used? Any washers or anything of that sort? Just because it was rejetted doesn't mean it could be perfect, there are lots of ways to mess it up.
I'm not sure about the washer or size of jets. The only thing I've done was checked the spark plugs and oil.
Sounds like mechanical issue to me, if it just started out of the blue. Cables are mechanical.

Vacuum or sticky/kink throttle cable. Is there any slack in your throttle cable?
I took it for a drive again and noticed that it happened after about 10 mins of driving. The first 10 mins the RPM drops back to normal.
I'll check the cable and for any vacuum leaks in a bit.
Mine did this a few months ago as well. I had the idle set for cooler riding but it started getting hot (Florida Hot) and it did exactly what you were mentioning. We readjusted the idle screw after a good 10-15 warm up and it has been fine since!
Maybe that is all it is for you too!

Isn't the idle supposed to be at 1100K-1300K? Mine is at about 12-1300K. I adjusted it last week because it was turning off on me at freeway exits.
Well, yeah. What I'm saying is 1300 rpms at 50 degrees can be different than at 90 degrees. Also, when you adjusted the screw was it when the bike was warmed up?
This may not be your problem :dunno_white:. i was just stating what I experienced.

had the same issue shortly after I got my bike. I was riding when cold and set the idle for cold days and the summer came and I was wondering why the hell was it idling at 3-4K.
just warm her up well and then adjust the idle screw. it fixed the problem for me and have never had it happen since (I do slight adjustments if the temperature changes a lot)
I'll adjust it again tomorrow. Wouldn't it just stay at 3-4K all the time? Mine goes back to normal if I release the throttle slightly then bring it back in, when in gear, or else it goes back down by itself.
Did yours do that too?
Thats exactly what my bike was doing, would stop at 3500 rpm and slowly make its way down. to its proper idle. My problem was the boots from the air box and carbs wasn't seated at all. Make sure you haven't got any leaks in your system there

I had the exact problem as the OP. I read the sticky about stuck idle and adjusted the idle to 1000rpm when it was fully warmed up. Now it is much better. It doesn't snap back down to 1K but it doesn't get stuck at a high RPM anymore. I may also have an air leak or something but I was glad to see the idle problem get fixed so easy.
in my case bike was behaving just normally until she got reallllly warmed up and then she would drop the rpms to 3-4K and stay there or sometimes she would drop to normal if I played with the throttle a little bit. it was really frustrating because I had to engage the clutch much sooner than it was necessary in order to stop, if I did not engage the clutch I had to use much more brakes to slow her down to stop.

Mine does this too, started after re-jet and unifilter - maybe a vacuum leak between carb and head. Annoying but I can live with it, maybe I'll fix it someday.

did you readjust the idle screw after the rejet? you should have done that, if not then you know what the problem is :thumb:
Yup mine was doing that same thing as the Op and kml! Took a couple of days of tinkering but it hasn't done it since. But, if the temps ever get down in the 50s I'm sure it will be time to re adjust! Well, hopefully soon I will get around to using the jet kit that I got from the Buddha!

I re-adjusted the idle today. Now it goes back down to about 1k after 2 secs. I think this is normal
