Had some issues with shifting, read the thread about the release mechanism adjustment and did that, but now I got no clutch actuation what so-ever. All freeplay. The release mechanism still moves like it is supposed to so it's not the cable. I screwed the adjustment screw all the way in just to check and it seems now that the pushrod that goes into the tranny is either binding or stuck. The rod will come out but it doesn't seem to want to push in on the detent as before. The actuation I CAN get isn't correct, the clutch lever feels way to hard. I'm completely lost and frustrated. Did I screw something up big time?
loosen your bar mounted handle all the way.
adjust out the cable (engine case adjuster) adjuster IN 5-10 turns.
remove the adjuster cover. (on the case, two phillips looking screws)
release the 10mm (or whatever) nut on the adjustment screw.
back the screw out, then screw it in slowly, carefully until you meet resistance. back it OUT again 2-3 turns.
tighten the lock nut (10mm or whatever)
adjust the case cable adjuster until you -start- to take up slack up there on the bar.
adjust the calbe aduster (up there on the bar) until you start to get the feel you want at the lever.

gentle now. if this doesn't work, yes, something is wrong. your cable may be partially broken and giving you the feeling something else is wrong. a clutch cable is $12 shipped and the best thing besides tires you can do for a gs. really. you'll love a new cable. as far as the basket and all, dunno. maybe you killed something but i doubt it.
:)
I have to thread the screw in so far to get the little bit of resistance it's in too far to get the lock nut on at all. Bike only has 9k on it. I'm wondering if I broke something. The locknut was on super tight, when i broke that loose this all began. I'll remove the sprocket cover again and look at the release mechanism. Could've I have jammed something internally, like the other pushrod within the tranny? I'll check the cable and repeat the process and shout ya back. Thanks.
Repeated the process exactly the way you posted, same thing, nothing....I get a little resistance with the in-line and bar adjusters adjusted way out, but it's all freeplay until about a 1/4 inch from the grip, then rock hard. Release mechanism is working correctly and doesn't seem damaged, and return spring is intact. It's almost as if I busted a spring somewhere (maybe behind the clutch cover???) I'm kind of at a loss here. Pulled the tank, checked the cable and it seems just fine. Put it on center stand, fired it, put it in first... wheel spins like clutch is fully engaged. Would it be beneficial to open up the clutch side of the bike and check that out?????
did you ever get this fixed? im having a similar issue
Yeah, I ended up taking it to a shop for lack of time and patience. The tech where I took it told me that one of the clutch discs had rotated and was stuck open therefore taking all the action out of the clutch lever and leaving me with just free play at the handle. He fixed it for relatively cheap ($100) and had it done in a day. He also said that it was strange that it happened and wasn't quite sure what caused it. Bikes been fine ever since. Hope this helps, if you are privy on how the clutch pack works you may be able to just do it yourself. As for me I chickened out, and just paid.
