Due to the expected weather, brunch will be moved to Sunday 23, 2009.
I'd love to do a meet and greet over brunch at Mountain Gate Family Restaurant in Thurmont, MD. We can organize a short day ride around the Catoctin Mountain area afterwards.
Lets meet at the restaurant parking lot at 10:30, Saturday 22, 2009 Sunday 23, 2009. PM me if you're interested. Those coming up from the DC area can call me at 240-476-4726 and we can arrange a meeting place that morning and ride up together.

This sounds interesting since I now have my bike on the road. One problem though....I have a learner's and not a license.

Bummer. Have you taken BRC?

As far as I know I am free that weekend. I'd be leaving out of Baltimore if you want to ride together ver4. We could take Liberty Road if you don't feel like riding on I-70. My GS's are in Bedford, PA at the moment, can I show up on an SV??

All are welcome no matter what you ride. If you bike is in the shop, come in a cager if you have too. The idea is to break bread with those that have something in common. Besides, don't all GS's want to be SV's when they grow up? ;)

No I haven't. Being a poor college student doesn't allow me to afford the course. I had to take a loan out just to buy my bike and I will be paying that for the next three years.
Depending on how much money I have I may or may not be able to take this trip.
BTW, I live close to Sparrows Point, so I would still need a way to meet Jessie up there.
gah. i would love to make it but i already have about four things planned that day. maybe next time.

No worries. We'll figure something out.
Jessie - How far away are you from Sparrows Point? If memory serves me, its over by Edgemere.

That's correct. They're basically interchangeable terms for us around here.
1030 on a saturday!!!!! That's crazy talk!
I'll tentatively say yes to being there, and will be down with meeting up with Jessie and any baltimore people and riding up.
I'll be there. I'll be coming from Ft. Meade and can meet up with the baltimore people too.

Ver4 needs an escort from Sparrow's Point. Are you any where near him?
- Porkchop
I could hit Sparrows Point first if no one else is in that area. I'll need some directions though, I'm not too familiar with Edgemere. We could hit PachmanP along the way if he's awake that early... How comfortable are you with the beltway ver4? I'm not sure if you'd want to cross the Key Bridge on a windy day early in your riding career :o Let me know

Well I was hoping to get out today and go riding. My Dad said we'd go and then next thing you know he never calls me. As of now I haven't been on the highway, but I plan on driving more before this trip. I'll keep everyone updated on my situation.
PS....It's real easy to get to where I live.
No problem either way. We can always cut through the city and take Liberty road all the way out. I haven't been too far out on Liberty road, just to where it hits Route 27; it might make for a cool ride. Later

Looks like it's going to rain this weekend. Stupid weather. :flipoff: :2guns:
Never trust a weatherman more than a day out ;)
-Jessie
Hopefully that storm gets here earlier in the week or waits until Sunday.
The extended forecast says 40% chance of shattered showers. I'll keep an eye on the radar. If the forecast changes to wide spread showers we may move the time to let the storm pass or change the date if the storm lingers.
- Porkchop
I definitely want to go, but if it's raining I don't think I'll be up for it. Let's just hope the weather changes in the next few days.
I don't mind isolated showers but an all day deluge would kill it for me. Otherwise I am down!
-Jessie
Looks like the rain is moving out and now it's only a 30% chance with Isolated T-storms. If it stays that way then I am good to go.
Like I said, never trust weathermen until the day before. www.wbal.com says 70% chance of thunder storms now on their website. They all seem to agree that Sunday's weather looks better, anybody free then?
-Jessie
I probably wouldn't be able to do Sunday. I may have a potential buyer on my other motorcycle and he is coming over then.
Sorry Ver4 - The weather pattern suggests that Sunday would be a better day weather wise. We are changing the day to Sunday. Don't worry, we'll have another meet and greet soon. It's never to early to start planning...do you like crabs?
-Porkchop
Well this sucks. Maybe I can get the guy to come over Monday. I really need to get some drive time in.
This would still be starting early Sunday, what about asking them to come in the late evening?
-Jessie

It all depends on what my Dad wants to do and when this guy wants to meet. I am supposed to talk to him on Saturday evening.
yeah I talked to Jessie, and sunday sounds good to me.
So far, I am in for Sunday. My realtor still hasn't contacted me about my walkthrough which is supposed to take place tomorrow (Saturday). Assuming it doesn't get moved to Sunday, I will be in Thurmont!

I assume that we're still a go for tomorrow.

Yes, we're still on for tomorrow. I'll see you up there.
-Porkchop
Unfortunately I cannot go. Maybe next time.
Well I hope you all had a good time. I sold my Honda for $600.

Honestly, I am. The thing just got on my Dad and my nerves so much and we just wanted to get rid of it. Plus, it will allow me to buy new riding gear. :thumb:
I hope everyone had a good time yesterday. I was really bummed that I couldn't make it. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.
Closing on my new home in Haymarket, VA is this morning. Hopefully I'll get settled in soon enough to be able to host a meet-up for some early autumn Shenandoah twisties!
Short notice but floating the idea for a Baltimore to Bedford, PA ride this weekend if anyone is free. The plan would be to leave Baltimore around 1pm Saturday, ride around western, MD, spend the night in Bedford, and head back early Sunday. Let me know
-Jessie
I've already agreed with Jessie on this idea.
i'm going riding tomorrow if anyone wants to tag along

You guys will be 10 minutes from where I live :(
I'm a mile off of 77 about 1 minute after you leave the park heading west
One of these days I'll get a bike.
550, 77, 491 (Raven rock rd) are great roads for riding, so is 16 up in the Waynesboro area
FYI
The very next turn on 77 West after the handicap parking lot is a lot more dangerous than it looks, I've seen a number of accidents there over the years.
It's not bad going up the hill and to the left, but people coming east heading down the hill and turning right sometimes swing out across the line

A lot steeper than it looks
I think we missed a great opportunity for another meet up today, the weather was beautiful!!! Met up with ver4 for a ride though so it wasn't wasted :D
-Jessie
I went to Harper's Ferry, glorious weather.
I WILL have a bike before the spring, so count me in on group rides in late summer or fall.
I ended up riding on Sunday. Amazing day. Absolutely amazing.
I'm in Baltimore, and I intend to ride every nice day there is. So let me know if about nearby rides.
i tried to ride sunday too and totally forgot it was the end of thanksgiving weekend. i was gonna take 95 down to quantico. i hit the mixing bowl and came to a complete stop.
Let me know and I'll ride with you. You'll be able to see your old bike. =)
ha... i didn't realize that was you. welcome to the club. i take it you got everything sorted out and tagged?
Yep. Now to get it running well with the choke off and I'll be a happy camper!
there should be a little bag of jets in that box of parts i gave you if you dig deep enough.
Yeah, I'm putting off serious tinkering until winter hits full force. If I break it, I might need that snowy down time to get it running again.
Soo who's up for a ride today?
I mean the plows have been by and I've only had the snowblower out twice!
I've got the chains on the Nighthawk. The good thing is it is relatively light to pick up.
-Jessie
It's an absolutely perfect day for a ride. Anyone interested?
Maybe once the Ravens get done racking up penalties ;)
