I do not plan to go there, but I have watched a lot of vids of that road... OMG...  :icon_eek:
This is an amazing place to ride. Someone told me to keep your lane to avoid to crash in a car bumper.

Just got back from the dragon today. First time down there and I had a blast. Make sure to get out and explore the area, there are so many other great roads down there. We had luck running the dragon early in the morning, or late in the evening, around 6 or so. Are you planning on camping?

well we camped last time, but this time we decided to rent a house in robbinsville.  planning on hitting the dragon, cherohala skyway and parts of the blue ridge.  any recommendations on other roads we should check out?

We rode 28 all the way down in to N. Georgia, that was a great road. 64 was very scenic and twisty, although traffic was pretty heavy when we rode it. I'd suggest going to Killboy's setup across from the CROT and picking up one of his maps. We got one, but not until right before we left.

i got one of the mad-maps of the area last time i was down there.  http://www.madmaps.com/roadtrips/products/view/38.

thanks for the tips.

incidentally, how do you like your sv1000k3?  i'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one.  worried about the extra weight, but it looks like they are really only about 30-50lbs heavier than our steel frame gs500s.

I'm really liking it so far. You probably would notice the extra weight at first, but you'll get used to it. I was really throwing mine around on the dragon, and that was running a 190 rear; which makes the bike a little slower to transition between turns. I still had a great time and even made Killboy's blog!

well, i ended up buying an 03' copper SV1000S the day before we left for the dragon.  picked it up friday afternoon, got it titled, tagged and a new rear tire put and loaded it into the truck saturday morning and left.  unfortunately it rained the whole time we were down there so i ended up riding in the wet.

one of my friends drove my supra down though and that made the killboy blog :)
