Title: Honda NT650 Hawk GT Anybody?
Post by: PaviSays on August 06, 2009, 09:18:17 PM
I've been checking these bikes out for a while now, and it just so happens that there's on in my area.  Anyone ever try one out?  Any general info on the bike?  I think it strikes a very similar resemblance to the GS.  Supposedly its single-sided swingarm was pretty impressive back in its day...

Hi there,
These are fabulous motorcycles.
A friend of mine owns one and loves it.
I'd love to have one of these at some point.
Light, nimble, pretty, fun, fast, comfy.
I'd be a bit leery of the reconstructed title and not thrilled about the dented fuel tank.
Maybe you can get the price down a bit, but typically, these bikes sell for $3K to $4K in nice shape.
Best wishes,
Trwhouse

Those bikes have a big cult following, you can find lots of information online if you search.

All true and the Hawk was very interesting when it came out.

I would prefer 1st gen SV650.  When the SV came out it was quite a leap ahead of the Hawk.  Its stiffer, newer, better engine. And not more money at this point.

Yeah, I saw that on craigslist this morning. You must not be too far away from me.

The GS was listed on craigslist for $1700, so had that hawk been on craigslist when I was looking, I probably would've bought that one instead, I've only ever heard good things, but don't see too many around.

If I had a choice, I'd also prefer an sv650, but even though they're not too too expensive, you're still not finding one for $1700, I think the lowest they usually go for in good shape is closer to $2500, as far as craigslist goes.

did you catch that 94 Yamaha yzf750 that was up a week ago for $600?! that thing killed me. I'm not planning on getting another bike until later on in the winter, or spring, but man I would've loved that thing.

Salvage titles don't bother me too much anymore. Insurance companies will total a bike for anything anymore, and the only thing it really hurts is resale, but if you're not spending over $2000 on a bike anyway, I'm not usually too conscerned with it. As long as the engine runs well and the frame isn't cracked I'm happy.

Hehehe, yeah I saw your post.  I have the money too.  Idk, I'll stick with my GS for now.  I'm in the Coraopolis/McKees Rocks area northwest of the city.

I've been looking at those older Honda V-twins, hard to come by in the U.S.

I was just in Coraopolis staying on the Air Force base.  I had a wedding to attend in Cranberry Township.

I live in Bloomfield now, about 3.5 miles east of downtown, but I grew up in Cranberry, where was the wedding? I know there were some people from PA, but I didn't know there was anyone that close. I met someone from on here that worked at Pitt before, that wasn't you, was it? Once I get the bike on the road that bike shop out your way in Moon is one of the first trips on my list. That's always been one of my favorite shops and I haven't been there in forever!

The wedding was at a Lutheran church and that's all I know.

Well I'm from Baltimore and I just drove up for the wedding.  My Aunt is in the Air Force Reserve, so we had the chance to stay at the base for a cheaper price.

Weird, someone I know just got married and had the reception out at the airport.  That's not too far from Cranberry.

The Honda Hawk has a teeny tiny gas tank. Very short range on that bike. That's something that would really bother me I think.

First time I saw a Hawk my heart skipped a beat, because at first glance I thought I was looking at a next generation water cooled SRX600. Took a few seconds to get it in focus and see the second cylinder lurking inside the frame. Used, it had 2800 price tag, this was early 1990s. They kept their value.

I test drove it, it was OK, I remember not much power and it sort of got asthma at 6k rpms. Flat torque curve. Kind of like a VT500 but a little bigger. This is why the SV650 was such a shock, it pulls to much higher rpm and pulls harder, much sportier motor, better settled chassis.

There was an SRX250 next to it, brand new, for $2100, I thought it was a crazy retro bicycle on steroids gimmick for some 12 year old racing class. A boy racer.  I later got one and loved it. Wide open throttle on public roads is fun.
